SYMPOSIUM ON INFLUENCE AND LEGACY OF CHARLES MOORE: Celebrating with huevos rancheros, Charles’ favorite way to start the day. (clockwise from left: Tina Beebe, Cecily Young, John Ruble, Ray Gindroz, Richard Peters, Lu Lyndon, Maynard Lyndon, Stephen Harby, Barton Phelps, behind the iPhone Buzz Yudell ). Kevin Keim the Director of the foundation organized the three day event around the theme of “Layers” to consider a broad array of ideas and work related to Place-making. Over thirty speakers came from across the country representing architecture, urban design, art, graphic design, landscape and literature. The energetic discussions were nourished by Texas Barbecue and Tex-Mex at its best. John Ruble, Cecily Young, Tina Beebe, Buzz Yudell and Stephen Harby represented the collaboration and work of Moore Ruble Yudell.
Charles’ colleagues, partners, students and clients partipated enthusiastically including MLTW,
Centerbrook, Andersson Wise and UCLA’s Urban Innovations Group. Scholars, clients and students represented Universities where Charles had lasting influence: UC Berkeley, Yale, Princeton, UCLA, UT Austin, Rice, Univ. of Houston, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, Carnegie-Mellon and Tulane. This lively symposium-reunion-celebration has been both retrospective and prospective, a welcome reflection and recharge for all.
