Mountains Gandalf, MOUNTAINS!
So i climbed a mountain! I don't always feel a great sense of self accomplishment but I am honestly so proud of myself. I have always wanted to climb a mountain, but wasn't fully aware of the scale of mount Tongariro before we arrived to conquer it.
It included 4-5 hours of pure snow hiking accompanied with ice axes, vertical snow stairs with no safety rail, just vertical drops.
It was the most emotional experience of my life, and still cant quite find the words to describe the experience. Just that it was incredibly intimidating, seeing the vast size of it as well as feeling unequal in fitness to my fellow travel friends. But I DID IT!
I feel very lucky to have such an amazing boyfriend and travel family, that supported and fed me such positivity that kept me going, and the guides were amazing! Holding my hand and letting me hold onto their backpacks as the pulled me vertically upwards.
We climbed 1,978 meters which was a 14.5 mile climb in 8 hours 💀
A bonus was that, mount Ngauruhoe (aka MOUNT DOOM) is the mounting pictured in side 8, which was partially conjoined to the one I climbed 👌🏻
This was single handedly, the hardest thing I have ever done and I am so happy to have experienced it, even though it broke me, body and soul.
