"Are you in love with the real me or the perception of who you think I am?" Well, your question got me thinking love!
You see, I have been a voracious reader all my life. I read words, sentences and paragraphs written about characters in a novel and I imagine them a certain way. I imagine their eyes, nose, smile, smirk, the way they move and the way they might sound. I imagine and imagine until I create a person out of my perception and imagination. And he is perfect. All in my head.
But then, I go to watch the movies based on these books and I criticize the movie in comparison with the novel I read. I can't bear the crooked nose of the actor who plays the lead role or the backdrop of my favorite scene. And I call the movie as a shoddy representation of my beloved book. "The book was much better than the movie" said every voracious reader ever!
I guess, this is exactly what happens when we are in a long distance relationship. We talk over the phone and text each other all day, all night. Just like reading the paragraphs of a novel and creating an image of each other in our heads.
But when we meet, we try to reconcile between the person as imagined in our heads and the person in reality. And that's where all hell breaks loose!
So do I love you, or the idea of you?
I'd like to believe that what meets the eye is superficial, what crosses the heart is eternal.
Just like a reader who reads a novel understands the characters much better than the ones who watch a movie, I understand you better through your words from a distance. I think I understand you much better than the people you spend your days and nights with. Just like you do.
Maybe we are each other's favorite character in our novel. And in our heads, we are perfect to each other.
When the hearts collide, nothing else matters. So lemme answer your question love; "Maybe the idea of you is the real you. And yes, I love you"
