It might or might not surprise you to read that the first ever academic paper I submitted, during this (my first) semester at Uni, was written about Urban Food Production AKA Urban Agriculture 💚. .
Did you know 52% of Australians are growing some form of food🙌!
With population growth and urban sprawl challenging current food production systems and the environmental impact associated with agriculture and transportation no longer something we can ignore, conversations are now being had around the potential of urban developments and cities to become food producing spaces - think reduced food miles and access to locally grown, fresh produce.
This is our little home garden, here in Brisbane. It certainly doesn’t supply us with all we need but it has potential - especially now we have the ‘infrastructure’ to keep our resident possum out🙄! Yes it’s worth it because, there is just no substitute for the taste (and satisfaction) of biting into something you have grown and picked the same day it is consumed - swipe for example 👉🏻 and compliments to the Chef (aka Husband 😍). 🌱
So how about you. Do you grow some form of food at home? If yes, what do you grow - Herbs, veggies, fruit trees, bit of everything...really interested to hear your story!
