Australian Dingos (Nyoongar) are a dog-like wolf - they lack the distinctive smell of domestic dogs ~ they can’t bark and they breed only once a year. It’s believed dingos arrived in Australia about 3500-4000 years ago and eventually occupied most of the mainland including some islands except Tasmania. Dingoes are increasingly under threat from interbreeding with domestic dogs (there are very few pure bred dingoes left in Australia) and they are persecuted by some farmers seen as a threat to their livestock. They are also accidentally poisoned when they eat baits left for wild dogs. Their current Conservation Status is Vulnerable #dingo #wildlifeofaustralia #australianwildlife #naturewelove #abcmyphoto #animalsofaustralia #australiananimals #seeaustralia #aussiephotos #thewildlifebiologist #australia #exploreaustralia #australia_shotz #animal_sultans #animal_captures #wildlife_perfection #featured_wildlife #splendid_animals

I’ve been coming to Mount Field since I can remember - from camping trips with dad as a kid to some more ambitious walks in the backcountry in more recent times. Over the years it’s been impossible not to notice the increasing crowds and everything that goes with becoming a major tourist destination, particularly around Russell and Horseshoe Falls - subtle changes like the degradation of mosses on stones around the waterfalls, and new paths crafted by people wandering off the main tracks. I’ve been part of the problem too in the past - but over time one big lesson learned is that every footstep leaves a trace and makes a difference in these sensitive environments. It’s important that people can experience nature and the benefits it can provide to us all - but we also need to do our bit by sticking to the tracks provided in parks like this, a photo just isn’t worth the damage done when thousands of people are trying to get the same shot. We must remain conscious that even the footsteps we leave behind are another raindrop in the flood. This place is unbelievably special to me - and I treasure it now as much as I ever have 💚 . . . . . . . #keeptassiewild #naturewelove #australia #tasmaniagram #exploringaustralia #wildernessculture #hikingculture #theoutbound #keepitwild #stayandwander #nature #justgoshoot #peoplescreatives #tasmania #rainforest #waterfallsfordays #bealpha #weareexplorers #awakethesoul #theoutdoorfolk #ausgeo #ozshotmag #wildmagazine #optoutside #liveauthentic #lonelyplanet #unescoworldheritage #letsgosomewhere #wanderfolk #wondermore

Inspired by my favorite waterfall....since the rains stopped the water levels have dropped quite a bit. It was fun when it was full on - wild and loud. Mixed Media: Water Falling, 2018 . Available as a moving image for a digital frame. Or as a print. DM me if you are interested to find out more.

A Whitehead's pygmy squirrel (Exilisciurus whiteheadi) pauses momentarily to show off those white ear tufts, amidst a busy morning scurrying around the woody understorey in search of fibrous tree bark and lichen. ⠀ ⠀ Endemic to the island of Borneo usually found throughout cooler montane forest between 1000-3000m above-seal-level (although locally found at lower elevations). This species is definitely a light-footed and minute critter to photograph, to say the least! #wildtropics⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #stickyricetravel #borneo #rainforest #endemic #wildlife #naturephotography #naturelovers #animallife #amazinganimals #wildlifephotography #squirrelsofinstagram #squirrel #bestsquirrel #kinabalupark #suirrellife #squirrelsofig #naturewelove #allnatureshots #wildlifeonearth #igscwildlife #wildlifeonearth #wildlifephoto #cuteanimals #animalsofinstagram #wildlife_perfection #exclusive_animals #majestic_wildlife #wildlifeseekers

Bees are so essential to life on the planet. If the Bees decided to pack up and say to humans 'pollinate your own dang flowers' we as a species wouldn't last long. If the Bees die then we die. Look after these small legends. Things we can do to help out our small bee friends. *Don't use pesticides in your gardens. *Plant native and exotic plants to cater for all the different types of bees *Leave a little water out (shallow) so they can have a drink during their lunch break ,😉. ... Superb Fairy-wren singing her little heart out! . It was great to watch this little lady taking some attention away from the boys in the Aldinga Scrub today. Breeding season is underway and the scrublands are filled with flickers of blue and a melody of songs. Looking forward to spending some more time with this bunch!

Wild Budgerigars in the Great Sandy Desert! I've been seeing quite a few Budgies flying overhead the last few weeks out in the Great Sandy Desert in Western Australia, and this week I finally found where they are hanging out! This is a temporary water source and the Budgies love it. I was quite surprised how loud a swarm of Budgies is when they come screaming overhead in preparation for coming in for a drink and a wash. This is a scene I have been hoping to photograph for a long time and after much legwork over the last couple of years, it has finally paid off. I have plenty more images of this scene so I promise to upload more real soon. In the meantime, have an awesome weekend!! Cheers Gaz 😎✌️

It'sssss #Frog #Friday!! 😄🐸 I've been slacking off with this because of end of semester... You know how it is. Also very few frogs and mostly toads about. Hey @frogfriday can I sneak a toad in? It's an amphibian at the very least 😜 . . This tiny swamp monster is actually an introduced Cane Toad (Rhinella marina - prev. Bufo), soaking in a waterhole during drought. Drought is a double-edged sword - our native frogs have adapted to long dry spells, hunkering down until the wet. But Cane Toads suffer, needing a moist environment and steady food supply to survive. I've seen a large drop-off in numbers after the recent dry spell which is great, but unfortunately this will likely recover after the next lot of rains. What can we do to try and limit their population numbers? Look up your state govt. for guidelines on safe and humane disposal methods, and look in waterways and dams for their eggs. They're distinctive, ropy strings that can be easily pulled from the water to dry out in the bank! Why do we need to do this? Because Cane Toads are poisonous, and not only compete with native animals for resources, but kill them as well when ingested. . . #toad #eyes #portrait #reflection #1frame4nature #macrointhewild #mynikonlife #abcmyphoto #ausgeo #natgeo #yourshotphotographer #thisisqueensland #australiagram #australianmuseum #naturewelove #herpetology #herping #adventure #explore #biodiversity #feral #pest #conservation #amphibian #femalenaturephotographycom #jcuzoologysociety #JCUZSphotocomp

Is it a fancy flea? A jewel-like, rotund grasshopper? Nope! It's a Flea Beetle! Flea Beetles (#Arsipoda #fulvipes) are so named because of their strikingly chunky back legs, allowing them to jump similarly to fleas. Their small size (~4mm) probably helped the name choice as well. As part of the Chrysomelidae family, the Leaf or Eucalypt beetles, these shiny oddballs feed on leaves - usually gum leaves. Although, this specimen was found on an introduced Ice Cream Bean Tree (Inga edulis). In fact, I've found that this tree supports numerous native animals and insects, and I've even spotted Topknot Pigeons (Lopholaimus antarcticus) in it! But that's a story for another time 😄📖 . . #beetle #coleoptera #small #macro #macrointhewild #mynikonlife #femalenaturephotographycom #ausgeo #natgeo #australiagram #australianmuseum #thisisqueensland #biodiversity #adventure #explore #1frame4nature #naturewelove #portrait #rainbow #insectagram #abcmyphoto #yourshotphotographer

Flinders Island is a very underrated part of Tasmania. It is the largest of the Bass Strait islands and is full of amazing coastline, beaches and mountains and more often than not you will have it all to yourself. Take a cruise trip on the lower Kinabatangan River to take pleasure in spotting wildlife in their natural habitat and immersing in the surrounding rainforest. . This opening of the river is not far from Sandakan and it travels as far as 560 kilometre; earning its title as the second longest river in Malaysia. The sides of the river is overflowing with a wide variety of forests from dry dipterocarp to freshwater swamps. This is the Paria Canyon/Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, a place of wonder and peace. California condors lived here for 20,000 years and were recently reintroduced after a 100 year absence. In this ancient landscape, you can walk alongside footprints laid down by dinosaurs 190 million years ago; marvel at petroglyphs carved by puebloan people nearly 2000 years ago; and explore magical sandstone formations like this. They were originally part of an “erg;” a giant area of sand dunes that existed 150 million years ago. Formations like the one you see here continue to erode and change, giving visible evidence of John Muir’s observation that “Nature is ever at work building and pulling down, creating and destroying, keeping everything whirling and flowing, allowing no rest but in rhythmical motion, chasing everything in endless song out of one beautiful form into another.” . . . . . #landscape #nature #earthfocus #master_gallery #nature_brilliance #picturetokeep_nature #naturewelove #discoverearth #jaw_dropping_shots #moodygrams #amazing_shots #abcmyphoto #ig_shotz #worldprime #splendid_earth #special_shots #earth_shotz #viewbug #greatshotz #ig_bliss #masters_in_photography #usparksandmonuments #parkroamers #usinterior #vermilioncliffs #coyotebuttes

I found this little Metallic Shield Bug / Jewel bug on the trail leading down to the Organ Pipes National Park. There were a lot of people walking and running along the track so I decided to relocate him off the track.....but he decided to rest inside my lens hood haha. Jewel Bugs are from the family Scutelleridae which is a family of True Bugs....not like those false bugs 😉. They come in all sorts of colours and there are around 450 species worldwide. Better get cracking if I want to photograph them all 😀. 100mm Macro lens in natural light ... ... ... #bug #bugs #macro #jewel #insect #macrophotography #macro_delight #macro_brillance #insects #ausconservation #naturewelove #shieldbug #colourful #bbcearth #macrogrammers #nature #macro_nature #macro_vision #closeupphotography #igmacrophotography #insectguru #macrolove #top_macro #ausgeo

If you know me then it’s quite possible you know something about how beautiful and unique @tasmania is ... Information Repost from @fuckgiver - Do you know about the Tarkine / Takayna? Dudes, it's a magical land comparable to the awesomeness of The Amazon in Tasmania. And the likes of @bobbrownfoundation & @Patagonia are collaborating to try to get it World Heritage listed to protect it from being cut down for stupid shit like wood chips (seriously this is a thing that's happening right now !?!) If you give a fuck about this, there is a few things you can do: 1. Submit your photo of support to be included as part of an art projection on Parliament building in Hobart, Tasmania on the 27th of November 2018 - and better yet, you can show up in person if you're about! NOTE: (Photos to be included in the projection need to be uploaded by TODAY) 2. You can sign the petition to show your support for the world heritage listing of this ancient site. 3. You can watch the 40min documentary about the Tarkine 4. Get this on the radar of everyone you know - and talk about the radness of the Tarkine 🙂 ...want to know more? Behind the scenes chat with Bob Brown about why this important coming soon 😍🙌 The Tarkine or Takayna "One of the last undisturbed tracts of ancient rainforest in the world. It also includes one of the highest concentrations of Aboriginal archaeology in the hemisphere—traditional use of coastal Takayna / Tarkine dates back thousands of years and those cultural resources are still an important part of Aboriginal heritage and culture. The area is a crucial habitat for sixty of Tasmania's rare and endangered species including the Tasmanian giant freshwater crayfish, the Tasmanian wedge-tailed eagle and the iconic Tasmanian devil." #TAKAYNA DM me for links if your googling can’t locate any of the above 🙏✨

LADY IN RED The beautiful red colored Mulga Snake, aka 'King Brown’ (Pseudechis australis) from St. George, Queensland. Mulga snakes vary significantly in appearance (colour & pattern) across their distribution within Australia. In my opinion this is the nicest colour form out of the them all. If you missed Monday night’s video of this snake be sure to check it out, she is beautiful to see on the move!

To me, Malapascua was the absolute highlight of our trip to the Philippines. I would return to this spot a thousand times over, all for the scuba diving. This tiny island is still a well kept secret but I have no doubt that this is one of the best dive locations in the world! There are loads of of opportunities to dive while on Malapascua Island, every third building is a dive shop and they all offer reef, wreck, wall, cave, muck, sunrise/sunset and night diving experiences.  But among all of these options there are two things that make Malapascua a bucket list location. The first reason is the maco life! Gato island and the lighthouse are two very good spots for this. These photos were all taken on my shakey little gopro at Gato Island, I can't even imagine the fun a real underwater macro photographer would have here. You can find a huge variety of crabs, shrimps and nudibranches, harlequin and mantis shrimps, anemone fish, (flamboyant) cuttlefish, ghost pipefish, (blue ringed) octopus, tube worms, blennies, frogfish, mandarin fish, (pygmy) seahorses, flatworms, Spanish dancers and too many more to list. Fingers crossed that the next time I visit Malapascua Island I have an underwater housing 🙏 . . . #malapascuaisland #ig_pilipinas #exploreph #travelstoriesph #traversephilippines #oceanminded #saltlife #oceantherapy #scubagirl #oceanaddict #ig_hiddenearth #depthsofearth #naturewelove #underwaterphotography #igwildlife #wildplanet #fromwhereyoudratherbe #tlpicks #wearetravelgirls #girlsthatwander #gltlove #girlsabroad #traveldreamseekers #girlsmeetglobe #travelgram #scubadiving #realdiving #iamssi #divessi

The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act was 50 years old last month. It protects the free-flowing nature of certain U.S. rivers which “possess outstandingly remarkable scenic, recreational, geologic, fish and wildlife, historic, cultural or other similar values.” There are 208 such rivers and this is one of them; the upper Deschutes River in Oregon. Here it is reflecting the blue sky and the autumn colors on the canyon walls above as it starts its journey to the Columbia. Our walk along the river bank here was a peaceful, spiritual experience . . . . . #landscape #nature #earthfocus #master_gallery #nature_brilliance #picturetokeep_nature #naturewelove #discoverearth #jaw_dropping_shots #moodygrams #amazing_shots #abcmyphoto #ig_shotz #worldprime #splendid_earth #special_shots #earth_shotz #viewbug #greatshotz #ig_bliss #masters_in_photography #oregon #rivers

How good is this place? In 1996, the Ramsar committee determined that it is indeed a very, very good place, and designated Blue Lake as one of Australia's 66 Ramsar Sites. This means that it is a wetland of international importance. Why is this? Well, Blue Lake meets both Criterion 1 & 2 of the Ramsar Convention, meaning it is a unique wetland, in this case, it is a glacial alpine wetland in near-natural state. It also provides unique habitat for a number of threatened plants, animals, and ecological communities. . Climate change is the key threat for this wetland, with concern of warmer temperatures and altered snow cover dynamics potentially disrupting the dimictic (aka upper water and lower water mixes twice per year) circulation of the Lake. . Blue Lake is just one of those places that takes your breath away every time you see it. I was lucky enough to be walking around up here on Saturday doing flower surveys with one of Australia's most respected alpine scientists. Not only did we spot a higher than normal population of sky lily (#Herpolirion novae-zelandiae), there were also little black cormorants and Pacific black ducks swimming looking for fish, and lots of little frogs getting frisky in the Bogs adjoining the lake. Biodiverse and beautiful 💙 . . #kosciuszkonationalpark #ramsar #ramsarsite #bluelake #glaciallake #wetlands #nature #landscape #naturewelove #landscapephotography #water #austalps #snow #snowymountains #NSWparks #abcmyphoto #savekosci #waterbirds #fieldwork #phdlife #getoutside #adventure #hiking #science #ecology #ecosystem #UNESCO #mountains #conservation
