@ and I had an absolutely wonderful morning today at Hagley Park Run here in Christchurch. I didn't want to get up this morning but the wife insisted so I did. Having gone to sleep late the night before I wasn't overly keen to go for a 5km run, this feeling was reinforced when we got to the park and saw a field of over 250 runners, and the sun burning bright.
Just before we set out though, an experienced runner spoke to us and said, if you're aiming for a PB, go out fast for the first KM, it's a risky strategy, and it won't pay off 9 times out of 10, but it will eventually. I took those words to heart and told myself I was gonna go out fast, little did I realise I would keep that speed up for the first 3kms! It was a hard run in the burning sun, but I'm glad I went, and I am even more glad that I listened to the words of advice from the beginning of the run because I walked away from this morning's park run with a new Park Run 5km PB of 31:54! Beating my previous PB by almost a minute.
