"I take literally the statement in the Gospel of John that God loves the world. I believe that the world was created and approved by love, that it subsists, coheres, and endures by love, and that, insofar as it is redeemable, it can be redeemed only by love. I believe that divine love, incarnate and indwelling in the world, summons the world always toward wholeness, which ultimately is reconciliation and atonement with God."
- Wendell Berry
AMEN. It can be so hard to stay in a place where we remember what really matters. Day-to-day life, as it's become, demands overthinking, stress, distractions. But this too shall pass. I need often to let myself sink back, beneath the shallow surface of all of that, be again at the mercy of the elements. Beneath the trees. Sleeping to the sound of rushing waters. Sheltering from an all-day steady rain. Wet wood and cooking over too-smokey fires. There are better things, old enduring things, more real than any that we've made for ourselves. We only need to go out into them and remember.
