September, 20th 2017 Hurricane Maria made landfall in #PuertoRico. 1 year ago, and the United States is still trying to cover up its negligence that resulted in the death of thousands of Puerto Rican's.
Of course it's not just the wrath of Maria that the United States covers up, but the wrath of 120 years of United States colonization on the island.
The exact same mindset that allowed Puerto Rico to be passed from colonial ruler Spain to the United States via war. The exact same mindset that lead to the forced sterilization of one-third of Puerto Rican woman without their consent. The exact same mindset that denies Puerto Rican's a right to redress their grievances. The exact same mindset that drafted Puerto Rican's into wars they had no representation in the approval of. The exact same mindset that allowed the massacre of those fighting for independence...Is the exact same mindset that has created the colony the people of Puerto Rico are still enslaved by today, the exact same mindset that allowed the passage and enforcement of PROMESA, and the exact same mindset that has allowed a disgusting response in relief of Maria and Irma, that resulted in the death of 4,645 Puerto Rican's.
The thought that Puerto Rican's are less than human, less than a people with dreams, aspirations, determination, and the capacity for self governance as anyone else in the globe.
It is this mindset that allows these crimes against humanity to continue to be committed on Puerto Rican's.
Today, it is just dressed up and called politics. "There will be war to the death against all Puerto Rican's." E. Francis Riggs, Chief of Police of Puerto Rico. 1936
