But What Is "Filler"? "Fillers" contain Hyaluronic Acid, something our own skin cells actually produce naturally in a bid to maintain moisture levels. These levels reduce as we get older, therefore fillers restore that balance giving back natural looking contours and reduce the signs on aging. They give instant results yet wear off slowly over time, depending on the product they can last 1-2 years.
So what fillers are best?
There are a lot of fillers out there. Some very cheap hence why some practitioners can charge much less. I'm not saying they're not as good if they're cheap. But I like to know facts about my products and only use something I can totally rely on. Cheap isn't always cheerful!
So what do I use?
My filler of choice is Juvéderm. This is because it has been approved by The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) since 2006 and have been made using advanced technology. They have a good safety profile and give you highly natural-looking and long lasting results.
Why choose fillers instead of surgery?
As much as surgery has it's benefits of long lasting effects. It also comes with high risks. Most surgical procedures require a general anaesthetic which involves intravenous drugs and inhaled gases. Not something your body takes kindly to. Also there's other negative facts such as a longer recovery time plus higher risk of infections.
Choosing a practitioner?
Consider they're suitability not only to inject fillers, but their ability to deal with complications should they arise. My personal opinion, and yes I am a nurse so bias I may be, but only those with a medical background are equipt to inject substances into the body. This aside, ensure they hold a qualification and display it on their treatment room wall. Before and after photos are a good way for practitioners to show their work, but unfortunately people do help themselves to others pictures and show them as their own. So check out reviews and contact them for a consultation if you're unsure about treatment. Any good practitioner will give you their time to ensure you are fully informed about treatment and understand the process.
