On this day in 1933, White Sands National Monument was founded. This tiny corner of southwest New Mexico is the world's largest gypsum dune field. Even in summer, you won't burn your toes running through this basin. My toes, however, were quite frosty, because I had to traipse as bare footed as possible. And, as for Edie, she just wanted to run like her name is The Wind.
Am I the only child of he 80's who can credit Spacecamp, the movie, with first introducing White Sands to my awareness? 🤗
