Been thinking a lot lately about introverts in the big, crazy world of photography.
Most people already know this but I‘m pretty introverted. I almost always book a hotel room the night after a wedding just to rest after the long, loud day. I love weddings and genuinely enjoy interacting with people throughout the day, but it can be draining, even the most extroverted photographers will tell you that.
Loving people and being introverted might not make the most sense to you, but that’s me. I am so passionate about connecting with others and building relationships but that’s just not where I gain the most energy. I know there’s people who relate to me on this, where you at??
I guess I just wanted to jump on here tonight and encourage my introverts. You do have a place and you do matter. Even in a world sometimes oversaturated with photographers, you carry beautiful gifts within you too.
Not just photographers, but creatives in general! You have a purpose and your introversion is a gift! You sense burnout early and train yourself to get the alone time your body and mind crave!
Not only that, but you offer something special to the world, different than me and different than the person next to you. Introverts, extroverts, no matter who you are or where you’ve been, you were woven together with specific gifts and passions. I believe that every passion you have can be used to glorify God and light up this dark world.
So, what are you waiting for? Light this place up and walk in confidence, thriving in whatever way you were meant to! For me, thriving is sometimes taking some time at the end of the day to read a book or watch TV so I can pour into people better the next day, and that’s alright.
