Leaving a life behind, it’s never an easy decision. Seeing your parents age from the distance, consciously missing the birth of your nieces and nephews, it’s never an easy decision. Having to go through the rough patches of life while you’re away from your loved ones (because you have chosen to do so), it’s never an easy decision. Depriving your child from being a part of the day to day lives of your parents and siblings, it’s never an easy decision. Missing the weekend barbecues, the birthdays, the Christmas dinners... it’s never an easy decision. But, having the chance to give my child more opportunities, more experiences and a chance to live in a place that strives to treat everyone equally, is beyond what I have ever dreamed. We were only able to grow our family because of the generosity of this country and I’m proud to call this place home. This exact day, 11 years ago, we were arriving here with our lives packed in 4 suitcases, a (very special) bicycle and many hopes and dreams... and today, we are happy that many of them have come true. Looking at Brazil’s current situation, just reassures us that we have made the right decision. Our roots will always be part of us and we will never learn how to deal with the loss of what we miss back home... but at the same time, home is here! We love ❤️ you, Canada!! 🇨🇦 We are very grateful for everything!
