Dear Olympic, I forgot how majestic, breathtaking and amazing you are. The weather was perfect. Next year I'm coming back to backpack and explore more. This weekend was filled with much needed laughter, deep conversations and reflection. As a newbie hiker we set out to tackle Hurricane Hill at Hurricane Ridge this morning. A trail anticipated would be a bit challenging as a newbie, and as someone or of shape, overweight and struggling with altitudes (who knew). But the elevation seemed reasonable and 1.6 miles out and 1.6 miles back seemed surmountable, but out of my comfort zone. - A wrong turn after the trail junction (yes we had a map, but you know, it happens, when you ignore the map and opt for what looks like a well defined trail) had us going up the Klahanne Ridge trail instead. A longer (5 mile loop), higher elevation gain, and higher max peak hike than I was comfortable tackling and thought I much try to do that hike next spring!? - Guess who climbed Klahanne Ridge and went on to do Sunrise Ridge today? Me! I huffed, puffed, stopped to take pictures, and to catch my breath (a LOT) but up I went! And, you know what? I saw all kinds of people on the trail, some making the trek effortlessly, some power-housing through, some struggling as much or more than me, some young, some old, some men and some women... All kinds of skill levels, in all kinds of shapes... And suddenly I felt like I could do it. So... I did. - I struggled a bit, and had trouble catching my breath (partly out of shape and partly altitude). It took us four hours (which seems like a long time but it felt like it went quick with all that beauty)-- I did it. A hike I didn't think I could do until spring! Purely by accident. Purely a mistake. But purely, an accomplishment that I didn't have faith I could handle until I realized I was doing it! - It's the small steps, always the small steps that lead us to the biggest accomplishments. It may not seem like much to anyone else... But it's amazing to me! Literally, put one foot in front of the other and go... It may take a long time but if you keep putting one foot in front of the other? You'll eventually reach your destination, whatever that goal may be!! - #goals #strength #smallsteps #determination #hiking #outdoors #portangeles #olympicnationalpark #hurricaneridge #klahanneridge #sunriseridge #views #nature #washington #wa #pnw #olympicpeninsula

Walking through Olympic I looked around with wide eyes, noticing the way these ancient trees grew silently and humbly over hundreds of years: all of their own accord. . No human being forced their own design and will upon them. No deciding where they were placed, what shape they took, or how they could be used simply for our own benefit. Our fingerprints are untouched on their roots and branches. . They became these towering, breathing, sheltering creators of peace all on their own, long before us, and will continue to do so long after us. It’s humbling. . I think sometimes we need to gaze up to see how beautifully insignificant we are in comparison. There are wiser elders than us in the world. If we look and listen. #olympicnationalpark #solducfalls

Everything aligned perfectly to make getting on the trail at 5:30am totally worth it. A sunrise above the clouds, with fresh coffee, no wind, and mountains swimming along blissfully. The only issue was a persistent family of goats that kept following us much too closely. Remember to pee on rocks, well off the trail folks! #goatsloveurine #notlying #theywantyoursaltypeepee . . . . . . #mtellinor #olympicnationalpark #goatsofinstagram #alpinemountaingoat #sunrisehike #predawnpatrol #explorewa #optoutside

first trip ever to the Olympic National Park this weekend! this has been a bucket list spot for a while and we definitely didn’t get to spend enough time exploring it. I couldn’t be more impressed with its diverse & lush rainforest, looming ocean scape backdrop and wild birds that’ll eat right from your hand. kind of unbelievable! way to much to see here in this beautiful state we live in. | 🌲 #olympicnationalpark #stormking #climbmountains #explorewashington #theevergreenstate #upperleftusa #explorethepenisula #mountaingirls #birdcalling #reiemployee #optoutside #girlswhohike #neverstopexploring
