It’s hard to tell in the pic since the ice is covered with snow, but I’m actually on a frozen lake. Great day for a snow hike around Spooner Lake! I got some kisses from my pup too 🐶😘
Bridge pose stretches & strengthens the shoulders, spine, abs, glutes & hips, while helping to open the chest. It’s a good counterpose to the hunching over the desk pose so many of us find ourselves in during the day. It’s also pretty great after hiking with poles after awhile! .
To try it lie on your back with knees bent, soles of the feet on the floor and arms at your sides. Press your feet, hands & shoulder heads into the ground, firming the glutes (not squeezing together) & lengthening the tailbone toward the back of the knees, lift the hips off the mat & allow the chest to come toward the chin. .
Option to keep arms at your sides or interlace them beneath you, thinking about lifting onto the tops of your shoulders while lengthening through the neck. Keep the gaze upwards. .
Additional variations - coming in & out of the pose with your in/exhale, placing a block between the knees squeezing thighs together as you lift, lifting one leg toward the sky, placing one ankle on the other knee, bringing arms overhead, or placing a block or bolster beneath the hips for a more restorative version. .
