| S o c i e t y | I just read an article re : teachers having to now also prepare kids for their working lives on top of everything else, which includes grammar, literacy, numeracy, geography, art, music, social skills and overall learning skills. They also now have to monitor students diets, their wellbeing, mental health, social media, sporting talent, friends ( or lack thereof ) day to day behaviour, respect for their peers and any form of verbal or mental abuse. Now, my question is, what are the parents doing at home to create a situation now where a teacher must now control 95% of the aspects of up to 30 students when this should be done at home.
My mum used to help with my homework, throw a ball around with me, teach me skills like art and creative writing ( my Dad worked alot during the week ) She also taught me respect, how to deal with people and how to treat people
My Dad gave me my work ethic, my love of baseball, my drive, my competitiveness, my love of classic rock and how to drive like a 'peak hour legend'. He worked his a$$ off but still had time to help mould me.
Point of this being : stop being a whingy, lazy, useless parent and spend time with your kids, nuture them, teach them and mould them. You are in charge of their mental health, you are in charge of their social media and access to it and you are certainly in charge of their drive and ambition to work, so stop with your Insta posts about being a great mum or dad and get out there and be one in the real world
I write this as a father of 2, a hubby of a teacher, a great friend to many more and I cannot fathom how one person, a teacher has more responsibility for a parents child than the parent itself. Wake up society, stop being selfish, spend time with your kids not your phone, talk to them instead of messaging friends and take them out to a park instead of letting them play on an Xbox all day / night
