What does blood sugar have to do with your period? Turns out, a lot. If your blood sugar is bouncing up and down all day, your hormones are going to respond: cortisol will put your body in a constant state of stress and the excess glucose going into your fat cells will funnel more estrogen into your bloodstream. The result is that your balance of progesterone and estrogen will be messed up, so ovulation might not occur when it’s supposed to and the excess estrogen can cause a whole host of unpleasant PMS symptoms. The solution? Cut out excess sugar. I’ve been experimenting with the amount of carbs and sugar I eat — if you remember in January, I did a Whole30 with NO added sugars and have since reintroduced them — and I’ve noticed that my periods are *significantly* easier when I’m low sugar! Here’s a low carb meal for ya: grass-fed ground beef with thai kitchen red curry paste, avocado, garlic and basil sauerkraut, cucumber, and spinach

🌟Vegan Coconut Curry with Spaghetti Squash🌟 . . In a medium sauce pan I sautéed in sesame oil: sliced white onions, red bell peppers, julienned carrots, cubes sweet potato, mushrooms, minced garlic and ginger. Seasoned with Curry powder, salt, pepper, a dash of cayenne, lime juice, siracha for 🔥. Added vegetable broth for it to cook, when almost done added 🥥 milk and chopped cilantro and let simmer for 10-15 min. Serve over spaghetti squash and enjoy! Can you believe this coffee cake from @erinmckennasbakery is refined sugar free, gluten free, wheat free, soy free, dairy free, egg free, and vegan?! It’s SO rich and dense (in a good way), even @bettywhiiite loved it and said it was one of the best baked goods he’s ever eaten. . Like I mentioned recently, I hear a lot of fear around having to eliminate certain foods. But it’s honestly most likely going to be temporary! Sure, there are likely to be some foods that simply bother your body. And some foods that everyone knows they should generally avoid (like sugar and partially hydrogenated oils). . But when you go through that initial period of really fine tuning your diet to meet YOUR specific needs, you gain a lifetime of freedom like this! Believe me, I’ve been there. I was single and dating WHILE I DID AIP 😂😭. @Bettywhiiite and I went to get acai bowls for brunch on our first date because it was all I could have! I probably could have gone to an actual restaurant and just ordered meat and vegetables, but I would have had to ask the staff to not use certain oils, and I didn’t want to draw that sort of attention on a first date. . But I’ve put the time in and I’ve done the work, so now I know what it feels like to feel good. I stick to what makes me feel good, but I’m also able to have treats like this, or go out and order meat and vegetables and not worry about the oil. I definitely could ask about it, but if I don’t want to draw attention, I’ll just do my best. . I’m NOT saying that you can do an elimination diet and then say screw it after 30 days and eat whatever you want. But once you know how good you can feel, you can CHOOSE to eat foods that might not make you feel your best and KNOW why you’re feeling the way you do from specific foods, rather than being left wondering and guessing. . Point is, an elimination diet can be intimidating at first, but going through a period of being diligent can ultimately bring you so much FREEDOM 💕🍠🍫🍦🥩🥗

Breakfast Nachos! * Thinly slice sweet potatoes using a mandolin slicer. Spread a single layer onto a lined baking sheet. Add a little bit of butter and salt to each medallion and bake for about 15-20 minutes at 425. * Meanwhile, brown some pork breakfast sauce in a skillet on the stove top. When done, use the leftover grease to sauté veggies of your choice. (We did baby kale, spinach, and onions). When those are wilted, set aside and scrambled up 6-8 eggs and remove from heat right before they’re done. * Take the potatoes out of the oven and layer on top the sausage, eggs, veggies, and some grated raw cheddar cheese. Place under broiler for 2-3 minutes or until cheese melts. Garnish with sliced green onions. 🌮

It's my last meal of my first Whole 30 and I feel like doing some ~reflecting. ⚪️ . I started these 30 days out cocky thinking, "this is so easy, I already eat healthy so it's not even any different." Then the sugar detox headaches came on day 3 and lingered for a few days. They basically told me to sit down and be humble because clearly I did have a lot of junk in my system despite how "healthy" I thought I was. ⚪️ . I don't think I ever experienced the "tiger blood" whole 30-ers speak of, but I always suspected it was a slight exaggeration for marketing purposes (which I fully support if it's going to get people off the standard American diet for a month). My own interpretation of tiger blood is having natural (non-caffeinated) energy with no crash or fatigue during the day, no junk cravings, steady appetite, good spirits, and ability to fall asleep and stay asleep without assistance. They say everyone takes something different out of the program, and for me the biggest takeaway was my relationship with alcohol. Our culture presents booze as a fun accessory to joy and a crucial celebration-starter, but also as a comfy shoulder to rest on during tough times (bad day at work, relationship problems, anxiety, sadness, or just plain boredom/loneliness). It's no wonder alcohol becomes habitual- it's a vital component of literally everything. Short story long, a deliberate month without it showed me 1. I can enjoy a good meal without wine. 2. Going out to dinner and not drinking isn't as fun, but that puts the focus on the food, and helps me avoid going out to eat just for the sake of going out to eat(drink). 3. Without booze, I sleep Iike a bebe. 4. I habitually use alcohol to self-soothe. I didn't need to do a full-on elimination diet to show me these things, but I know I otherwise would have tried to self-soothe with junky foods in lieu of the 🍷. Without the option, I had to dig deeper. ⚪️ . So anyways yeah you should try it!

Well....not colorful AT ALL!!! 😬 But so so delish! Tonight I tried some of the #Barramundi fish I got from @thrivemkt 🐠. Wow!!! Wish i had this fish sooner. . Recipe 📝: We generously seasoned with @primalpalate seafood seasoning blend, then pan-fried in my homemade ghee. Once it was cooked through, we removed the fish from the pan, added a little more ghee, fresh lemon juice and capers. Then poured the sauce right over the fish. It was a 10 minute meal start to finish. Served with a side of roasted Brussel chips...my fav! 🌿 . So far I’m super impressed with the quality of the fish from Thrive Market. 🤗 I’m thinking I may try the meat box next.
