Last week, it was my pleasure to collaborate with the Penrith Neighbourhood Renewal team @penrithcitycouncil. This team does an amazing job bringing their community together. These fortnightly gatherings of local residents are a collaboration between four community organisations. Within moments of arriving on the scene, I found myself giving a team briefing to an incredibly inspiring team. All hands in. Hearts in too. Keen to make the laughter experience an awesome experience for their participants.
The team totally transform the space, between two shops, and brought it to life. They rock up with bunting, heaters, tables, chairs, a coffee van and goodie bags filled with fresh fruit, vegetables and sustainable goodies.
They have genuine conversations. I felt that the residents opened up to me instantly, because I was introduced so warmly into the group, by people whom they like and trust. They love this community gathering.
Why outside and not inside at the community centre across the road? Being outside means being seen. It means being able to invite people along, who are walking by, on their way to the post office or the local shop.
So much thought involved in making this as effective as possible. The work of a great team.
