Xgao (also called Butie, lying on the floor), is a fifteen-year-old boy, whose connection to the family I stayed with is a bit unique. He is the grandson of Kgao Qamme's sister. When he was nine years old, his father left the village and moved to live and work in a farm not far away. According to him, when he was younger, he has been treated very badly by his parents, who were often drinking alcohol. After he's had enough of the violence, he decided to leave home and move to Kgao's house, who accepted him as his own grandson. He is still in touch with his mother, who lives nearby, and she doesn't object him living away from home. Butie used to go to school, but stopped during the fourth grade. He's said that during a sports competition he took part in, one of the teachers took his things, which he bought using the prize money, and didn't give them back to him. He got upset, and decided to leave school. Having no one to push him back, he has been out of school for almost six years. He says he does wish to go back, but didn't know how to do it and has just gotten used to the new reality.  He has never learned the traditional hunting life from his father or grandfather, since it had already been prohibited by law when he was born. He enjoys playing games, drawing, and riding donkeys in the village. *Butie is a brilliant boy, happy and friendly. The social worker of the village has been trying for a long time to pull him back to school, and hopes to succeed soon.* For full story, please visit the link in my bio.
