I’m jumping on this #10yearchallenge bandwagon. What I learnt from this exercise was that you can not really judge anything on a photo. I know I have way more wrinkles now than I did 10 years ago but the photo on the right was taken with a good camera and with the light shining in a favourable direction. Still I’m happy with how life has treated me from 30 - nearly 40. We cannot expect the results we want without knowing it’s going to take time, dedication and patience ... there is NO secret short cut! I’ve been here day in and out for 4 years, following plans that focus on OVERALL HEALTH, feeding my body and my mind, commiting to my workout of the day and eat according to the meal plan and probably the BIGGEST game changer was making this lifestyle my JOB that level of accountability changed my life! We ALL have a Day One but most will resort to living for the One Day ... it’s literally YOUR decision but don’t you dare say it’s easier or lucky for those who decided to own their Day One

Rarely do I rant here, but this seriously is one of my pet peeves. . All too often, I see recipes and food products claiming to be “sugar free” or containing #noaddedsugar. Only to scan the ingredients and find...sugar. 🙄 . Sure it might not be “white sugar” or “cane sugar,” but maple syrup is SUGAR. Brown rice syrup is SUGAR. Honey is SUGAR. Coconut palm sugar is SUGAR. Because your body literally does not even care what kind it is. It treats all added sugar the same. And that can lead to health problems you don’t want and didn’t ask for. . (BTW, there are more than 70 kinds of added sugars out there. Yikes!) . It’s also WHY you need to always, always, always need to read and understand the ingredients in what you buy and make. Never believe the packaging or creative title. . Want to learn more? . Rainy day called for some comforting cookies 😋🍪⁣ ⁣ I’m doing the #tiuloveyourbody challenge, sticking to workouts and mostly food guidelines. So these were perfect to have as treat. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ •Garbanzo beans ⁣⁣ •Peanut Butter ⁣⁣ •Maple Syrup ⁣⁣ •Chocolate Chips (I get my vegan ones from @thrivemkt at a good price too!) •Baking Soda ⁣⁣ •Vanilla, Cinnamon or whatever flavors you want! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Blended everything except the chocolate chips! ⁣⁣ Baked for 25 mins or so at 350 degrees

From a year ago today, you have come a long way. Think about all those things that used to worry you, that no longer cross your mind. The challenges you were yet to overcome that now seem ‘normal’. The friends you’ve lost & found, the memories you made, places you’ve been. Every step you have taken matters, more than you know! Each step has helped build you into the person who are today and I think that is reassuring. Sure, at the times some of these steps may not feel great or comfortable but they do all happen for a reason- I’m starting to see this and I hope you can too! Embrace your story because it is unique and not worth comparison 💕 • So, the other morning I made the best pancake stack everrrr! Fluffy chocolate pancakes pilled high; layered with fruit and topped with @halotopau salted caramel icecream! RECIPE (1 serving): • 1/2 cup wholemeal spelt flour (sifted) 1/2 cup vanilla almond milk 1 tsp agave syrup (could use maple) 1 tbsp stevia 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp apple cider vinegar 1 tsp cocoa powder Whisk the wet ingredients together. Sift in the flour and pour in the other dry ingredients. Combine, cook and enjoy!

I just finished reading a new study about plant based diets and performance in endurance athletes, and I thought I’d share a few highlights. . 💚 Plant based diets are associated with: ✔️Reduced body fat (which is tied to increased aerobic capacity) ✔️ An increase in post meal calorie burning ✔️ Well facilitated glycogen (carb) storage, to fuel endurance ✔️ Better blood flow and reduced blood viscosity (which improves tissue oxygenation) ✔️ Increased antioxidant activity and reduced oxidative stress (tied to better performance and recovery) ✔️ Reduced inflammation ✔️ Better nutrient adequacy . 🥗 Some of my pro athlete and other clients do not want to go completely plant based. But many benefits can be achieved by following a primarily plant based diet. . 🍴 Even if you include some animal based foods, my advice is to: . 🥦 Consume at least 7 cups of produce daily (perhaps 5 as veggies and 2 as fruit) . 🥑 Choose monounsaturated rich plant based fats over animal fats (like extra virgin olive or avocado oil rather than butter, and avocado, tree nuts, seeds, and nut/seed butters, including tahini, in place of dairy). . 🍠 Select gluten free whole grains (like quinoa and brown rice) and starchy vegetables (sweet potatoes, fingerlings potatoes, root veggies) over refined carbs. . 🌱 Incorporate more plant based proteins, like pulses (beans, lentils, peas, chickpeas), and plant protein powders. . 🌿 Flavor meals with plenty of all natural herbs and spices. . ☕️ Drink green tea and coffee instead of energy drinks. . 🍏 Above all, focus on whole, high quality, nutrient rich plant based foods (not highly processed vegan junk food!). . 👉 How would you describe your relationship with plant based foods? Slow and steady over here. Two words that for better or for worse (probably the latter!) aren’t in my daily vocabulary. And yet, so far for 2019, that’s all I can muster. I’ve spent more time in bed the past couple weeks then I have in a LONG time. Feels like a 1000 steps backwards after fighting so hard to get to where I am. But that’s what happens when one has autoimmune disease and pushes themselves past the brink. So here I am, one long day at a time, trying to accept the slowness, welcome the stillness, fight against the lies that I have to hustle in order to be someone. Or that because I’m not hustling, I’ve lost windows of opportunity. I’m climbing my way out, it’s taking way longer then I had thought or hoped. I’m nourishing myself with plant based meals including this veggie minestrone which I made a huge pot of a few days back so I’m not having to expend energy I don’t have for another healthy meal. I tried to make croissants for the first time this break, vegan croissants. A dish that is primarily butter made vegan haha what a concept. There are a lot of vegan brands of butter tho and didn’t eat much butter before going vegan so I can’t really tell the difference in flavor, but these were soo hard. Very time consuming. But they turned out tasty and some didn’t look horrendous haha anyway, appreciate the view. Doubts always lead to fear and this year I took a leap of faith with this trip to Miami. It went from creating the cape I am wearing to buying the airplane ticket 4 days before my 25th birthday. This was my first birthday as a vegan in Miami, and there is not doubt this city treated me good with all the vegan restaurants. This beautiful city has a lot to choose from. I met so many great people. It was a wonderful experience and I am coming back without any doubts. This is not my last trip for the year, another one is coming up soon. This year for me is going to be about traveling and going to new places, even though I can’t travel outside the United States, I still enjoy the places I can visit within this country and make the best out of it. There are already a few states in my mind for my next trip. Anyone willing to take a guess? My finals thoughts: where do you see yourself visiting or taking a flight ✈️ to?? Never doubt yourself because you might be missing a life changing experience. Don’t ask for permission, just grab your luggage and leave. Nothing to loose, but a lot to gain. Do it with confidence and at times of doubt, just call your friends and seek social support from them. And don't forget CBD extract! ✨ CBD extract: Serotonin has at least 14 different receptors, but CBD specifically binds to 5-HT1A which is thought to have the strongest role in anxiety disorders. CBD helps help restore balance to the endocannabinoid system. CBD encourages neural regeneration, particularly in the hippocampus. ✨ Ginseng: A study followed 71 postmenopausal women who took 3 grams of red ginseng or a placebo daily for 12 weeks.
