Tomorrow in UCD I’ll be doing a free Herb Walk for anyone who would like to learn more about the medicinal plants growing on campus! 🌿 We’ll meet outside the O’Brien Centre for Science at 1:30pm and we’ll spend about an hour walking around campus in the sun, learning about our lovely plant neighbours! 🙌🌸🌳 This week was National Herb Week! And while I celebrated the opening of the week last weekend at HerbFeast in Castlebar the week itself was filled with #Repeal stuff💖. I made some time to harvest some Hawthorn flowers and make a some tinctures but I didn’t have time for a public event with all the canvassing and subsequent celebrating 🙌💕🙏 So even though I’m one day late I’m doing this Herb Walk tomorrow in honour of National Herb Week! 🌼☀️🌻 It’s open to students and staff of UCD and anyone else who would like to come along and join us! Hope to see you there! 🙌🌿☀️

A stand-holder at Chelsea gleefully told me this (circular leaved) plant was called Venus's Nipple, then made some 'funny jokes' as he sipped on his red wine 🙄😴 but this seems to have little foundation as the only record I can find of said item seems to be a pastry..... 🍰Ident help anyone? #plantsofinstagram #plantid #plantidentification #gardening #boredalready

So many flowers! The air was saturated in honeysuckle, which were just starting to come into bloom. There were new yellow flowers I had never seen before. The wisteria is starting to fade unfortunately but they put on a good show this year. Anyone know what the first pic is? They looked like tiny yellow snapdragons with no snap #naturelovers #nature #flowers #plantsofinstagram #plantid #plantidentification #plantlife #spring #greenery #flowerpower

With attention to morphology, along with an understanding of binomial nomenclature and the evolutionary relationships that plant names imply, that hike or stroll can also become a climb through the botanical family tree! >>>>> The more you practice looking at nature through this lens, the easier and easier it will become to identify unknown plant species. <<<<< Get out in there and discover all the goodness this Earth has to offer!

EDIT: 10/10 peaches 🍑 . #plantID help needed! I really want these (possible) drupes to be butternuts, aka “white walnuts”, because that would mean they are an even more local source of dye than the black walnuts I collect in October in western North Carolina. Apparently butternuts are disappearing from some sort of canker and most butternut-ish trees you see are now hybrids? Or so the internet says... Anyway are these just an immature peach or plum? The flesh did start to oxidize to a yellowish brown when I was scraping it away from the cleaned-off nut (pit?) in picture 2. And picture 3 is the actual tree, for anyone local that might know 🤗 Fingers crossed/knock on wood/ ever hopefully yours, Stephanie. Oh! and the leaves are a little toothy on the edges and they alternate.

HELP PLEASE! I'm pretty certain this is a kind of ginger but can't figure out what kind. I am moving and really want to bring some with me but if I don't know what it is, I can't figure out how to transplant it properly. The first photo was taken today and the second was a couple weeks ago, it just started blooming. It's in my backyard growing wild at the edge of the property near wetlands. Please help if you can!!! Notice the ants absolutely love it. My first thought was pinecone ginger but I didn't think that bloomed. Then I thought maybe shell ginger but the colors are wrong. Then I saw crepe ginger but the blooms are different. Haha I'm lost.

A royal empress tree grows in Brooklyn (Part II). These invasive plants were brought to the US from China as ornamentals. Their seed pods were also used as packing/shipping material in the 19th century—around when the Brooklyn Navy Yard was in full swing. I wonder what generation this guy is and if its parents come from the gardens or the docks. #paulowniatomentosa #botany #urbanbotany #weeds #purpleflower #brooklyn #nyc #plantid #ethnobotany #royalempresstree #purple #atreegrowsinbrooklyn

Come Memorial Day weekend I know it’s time to seek out the state endangered buffalo clover (Trifolium reflexum) [G3/S1]. It is a wide spread and quite variable species found throughout the eastern US in dry, open habitats such as prairies, glades, and upland woodlands. The flowers can be white, cream, pink or scarlet red; the leaves can exhibit or lack chevrons (watermarks). It has declined sharply throughout its entire range the last century or two due to fire suppression, which is a major factor of a disturbance, and other ecological factors. In Ohio it’s only known from a few sites in Pike Co. and a single site in Hamilton Co., the latter discovered by my good friend and brilliant botanist @polyman58 at a site where it was last seen/collected 100+ years ago by Lucy Braun! Definitely one of my favorite species and a gorgeous native clover. The first photo is from a Pike Co., OH site; second from Dan’s Hamilton Co., OH site; third a site from central KY; fourth and last a site from northern GA. #Nature #NatureLovers #NatureGram #NaturePhotography #PlantID #IGNature #PlantsOfInstagram #InstaPlant #InstaFlower #InstaBotany #InstaNature #Botany #Wildflowers #Clover #Trifolium #BuffaloClover #RarePlant #Fabaceae #NativePlants #Ecology #Ohio #OhioNature #OhioWildflowers #OhioBotany #OhioFlora #TheBuckeyeBotanist #ALGibson

1st stage of a Voynich Manuscript flower garden. Can't wait to layer them all up and get it looking like a medieval jungle! I'll admit to becoming a little obsessed with this manuscript, having poured over it for weeks now. Can somebody please identify the name of this wildflower which grows along the edge of a swamp? It is rather unique to other flowers since the flower itself is hidden underneath the leaves! I wonder how many people pass this beautiful flower throughout life and do not even know it is there. Is your flower hidden too? This. This shrub is in Singapore by a small road in a small neighbourhood and I’m almost sure no one ever realises how beautiful it is though they prolly walk past it everyday. I feel I’ve been sleepwalking too much and need a slap on the face to wake the hell up. This otherwise unnoticed gorgeous plant reminds me to wake up a little and put my act together. Does anyone know the ID of this beauty? I almost thought it was bamboo but the trunks were too thick and there’s a fair amount of aerial roots. #plantid #plantidentification #plantidhelp 🌿 . . . . . . . . . #plantlife #plantstagram #plantyplaces #plantsofinstagram #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #plantsarelife #meandplantsarefriends #lifearoundplants #singaporeplants #singaporeplantslover #crazyplantaddict

Anyone know what this beauty is? Got it at the botanical garden of our university, but it didn't have a tag with its name, which is pretty rare. Kind of reminiscent of a mimosa when you look at the fragile little leaves, which fold up at night and unfold again in the morning. Tried to take a picture of the blossoms (➡️third picture) but they're so small my camera can't focus on them properly 😭 the blossoms are small, five-petaled and I have the feeling there might be berries developing right now, but I can't be sure at this point. . . . . #plantlife #plantwitch #plantid #plantidentification #plants #greeneyes #urbanjungle (??? can't think of more tags but maybe this way I'll find someone who knows!)

Jacaranda trees - Jacaranda mimosifolia, are in full bloom right now in Southern California. This tree is referred to as the Exam Tree or Purple panic in Australia, where it refers to the need to complete assignments and study for final exams by the time it blooms there. The Apiaceae family is known for many things, their distinct smell, the umbel of umbel inflorescence, and their fruit. Interestingly, the two carpels start off fused with a compound ovary but after maturity the two carpels split and creates a schizocarp.
