TIME magazine has named "the Guardians" as the 2018 Person of the Year. The Guardians are a group of journalists who have fought for truth in journalism, often in the face of violence and harm. Among those journalists include Washington Post writer Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed at the Saudi embassy in Turkey. TIME magazine stated that they were selected "for taking great risks in pursuit of greater truths, for the imperfect but essential quest for facts, for speaking up and for speaking out." The selection has come during a time where journalism is increasingly dangerous and controversial. The magazine's decision clearly reflects its views on journalism; that they will stand on the side of truth and stand with those who support it.
