II High Key Landscapes II
This image is about learning and growth as a photographer.
Earlier in the year I was photographing with @ and @phy, wanting to learn more and more about photography. Wanting to learn more about composition, technique and editing. I loved just talking to them and asking questions.
Last year I had an assignment on High Key photography in a print class and I wanted to do it on landscapes, the first time it was a challenge, I’d never heard of high key photography before, I suppose I could have taken the easy way out and did something on a white background, but I wanted to try landscapes.
I have always been passionate about learning and I worked as a sports scientist for a long time, we would teach athletes that in order to succeed you first need to fail. I failed ALOT through my studies, but I refused to accept failure and I kept pushing to get the result I was after.
A few weeks ago some students moving into the last year of their studies asked me what my best piece of advice was... my reply was push the boundaries, don’t do what everyone else is doing, try something hard, and don’t be afraid to fail because it’s through failure you learn the most.
I took this image and this version with high key photography in mind. As 2018 comes to an end, I get the chance to look back on my year.
