Day2: Culebra (Read it as Culevra)
Sunny - Salty - Sandy, usually sums up a 🏖 but 'Playa Flamenco' is a lot more than that! Being one of the world's top 10 beaches, its pristine turquoise tinted waters, the white sand that's as soft as baby powder, and the rolling hills in the skyline will seduce and leave u mesmerized❤
You can't help but notice the rusty battle tank littering this beautiful sight. A bit out of place, isn't it?
This island was once the U.S. Navy training and bombing pratice site a little more than 40yrs ago. Fed-up by how their island was devastated, the inhabitants of Culebra protested. The U.S.Navy was left with no choice, and as they bolted back, they left this battle tank as a souvenir of their practices on this island. Although, this truly is a reminder of Culebra - 'THE CARIBBEAN MOUSE THAT ROARED AT THE U.S. NAVY'
My adrenaline junkie @pratikmahendrakar did snorkel and tells me he spotted giant turtles and found himself at peace swimming along with them🤗 While I was laying on beach, I couldn't help but think if Culebra can survive another Category-5 Hurricane! However, the attitude of the people is quite insipiring, they are not just restoring their community, instead they are re-building it for a sustainable future. They have learnt to power an entire home through a phone battery, to purify water and, how they can all stand together as a community in times of need to face any number of Hurricanes!
