Meet Big Bob & Princess Anastasia
Bob is a non-agressive, APA (American Poultry Association) sized Delaware rooster. Anastasia is our solo Russian Orloff pullet. She was brought home, in February, from our local feed store along with a multiple variety flock of a dozen, when they were days old. Bob was given to us by friends in August. For some reason, Anastasia made the connection that I've fed her flock since they were baby chicks inside. So when we moved them outside, she would come up and follow me during feeding time. So, I now have her trained to walk beside me to the shop, go inside the open door & enjoy her private feeding. She is such a spoiled & tame chicken that brings me tremendous joy. Even though, Bob is the largest rooster we have on our farm, he is constantly chased away from the food by other roosters higher in the pecking order because he is a gentleman. We need to maintain his weight so I also began feeding him individually. By the next morning, after I started this the evening before, he was already following me. He is also trained to eat in the shop. I wasn't sure if a rooster & a pullet would successfully eat together. But these two got along famously. So now, we have a private reservation for a "table for two" during the daily morning & evening feeding times. These two are very intelligent birds.
