“I’m so sorry, you’re still so beautiful, but it’s time to go.” This was the conversation my intern was having with the dahlias as she was cutting them down. I was listening to these words she was speaking to the flowers, these words that were speaking straight to my heart. All the while the scent of lovage was wafting through the air in the high tunnel, taking me immediately back to the first moment I experienced the very distinct smell. I was at Side Yard Farm, being told to “smell this”, “taste this”... that was a whole life time ago. That smell, those words, this moment on the farm. It was a perfect ending to the season.
The farms partnership with Side Yard Farm was always magical. Our farms complimented each other well, offering support and learning and love. Stacey and I shared business partnership and we shared love, a marriage, a dream of a future that involved combining farms and growing our businesses together. Unfortunately life had a different plan for us, although we did try to fix our marriage this season we ultimately grew in different directions and officially ended our marriage a couple of months ago, which also ends the partnership with our farms at this point. Just like my intern said to the dahlias, it was beautiful, and, it was time to go. I appreciate every one of you that supported us in business and in love. It was full of magic, and it was full of lessons and I am forever grateful for all that came from it.
