Tical by Method Man
The first Wu Tang solo album by the group's first superstar. Similar to the essence of 36 Chambers if you told me it was recorded entirley in some dimly lit unfinished Staten Island basement I would 100% believe you. Not necessarily a dark album but has that overcast cutthroat feel, more gritty and dirty than dark I'd say. Meth is at his rawest on here and exudes personality with shaky almost psychotic vocal tangents possibly inspired by fellow member Ole Dirty Bastard. A raspy yet somehow smooth voice that many rappers would kill for paired with a killer flow make for addicting delieveries and instantly classic quotables. RZA dominates the production with some haunted orchestra sounding pieces and skin crawling layered beats. A nice mix of funky tracks, slaps, and laidback odes to that Tical herb make it a very fun album easy to bump cover to cover. A sometimes overlooked installment on the Wu Tang catalog, Tical has brought me some great enjoyment the past few days.
