'Who are you?' said the Caterpillar.
This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, 'I — I hardly know, sir, just at present — at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then'
I've posted a few times recently about making changes for my photo sessions in the future. As I've grown and changed as a person, my business will need to change and shift a bit to keep up with me.
In the past, I let my ego get the best of me with my garden sessions, and I tried to offer garden sessions nearly year round. I figured since I can somewhat control the temperature in my greenhouse, it didn't matter what time of year I offered garden sessions. I have realized that by trying to fight the elements so hard, I am just creating unnecessary stress for myself. Garden sessions will only be offered during months when the outside weather is accommodating.
I have in the past ignored the problems with my spine, and conducted my photo sessions in a way that completely made my back pain worse. Last year around this time, it got so bad that I had to end up going under anesthesia twice to have procedures done just to manage my back pain. I also pushed myself to the point where I very literally tore a hole in my spine, an injury that wasn't there previously. It all could have been avoided if I just stopped spending so many hours bending over props! Everything with my session workflow is changing for the future. I know that sometimes that can be disappointing for repeat clients who have their heart set on duplicating a past session, but the business either needs to grow and evolve with me or it just isn’t sustainable.
The new year will bring some new session options that I’m excited about too! I will be making a few modifications in the studio over the next couple of weeks so my computer time will be limited but I'm excited to share the new changes soon!
