Had To Bring This Back
Regrann from @gazellemci - #rapcoalition #djprgirl Do you guys hear this? I hear it all the time. Most of the artist saying this haven’t done the basic research of their local radio station. I’m about to give radio 101 in this post. I do mixshow promotions. I get your record started at the radio station. I get the DJ’s at the radio station to play your song on the radio.I believe that a song should start in mixshow and stay in mixshow 8-12 weeks before attempting to go for official adds at a station. I believe a song has to gain roots and a foundation with the listening audience. When you go for official adds at a station you have a 3-4 week period to make your song connect with that stations audience. By the third week of air play, the station is going to put your song into call out. This is a test to see if their audience recognizes your song. If you fail call out, the station will drop your record from rotation. Your record can also be impacted by MScores. That is the metric that shows if listeners turn the dial to another station when your song comes on. Getting low scores on that test can impact the kind of air play you get. If a station is playing your song during the day and people change the dial, the station could reduce your spins, place you in overnights, or just pull your record.
Before I move on there is one more thing to consider about getting your record played. Some stations have consultants. A consultant makes recommendations to the radio station about what records they need to play. Most times the consultant doesn’t live in the market and isn’t interested in what’s happening locally. He cares about the national records. And making the stations he consult sound and feel like every major market station because his stations are playing the national hits.
So are you ready to go up against the major artist? #gazelleonhissoapbox #mixshow #hiphop #dj #rap #rapper #radio #playlist #linkinbio
