Made a ginormous batch of spaghetti sauce today to clear out all the frozen ground meat I had in my freezer - and half the batch went back in my freezer taking up even more space 🤦‍♀️ somehow it feels like progress but 🤷‍♀️

This was pretty much my expression throughout lunch today @lalasmexcafe! 😍 I mean where do I start?! If I had to choose my favorite food it would be Mexican all day, every day! I feel like it’s almost impossible to find organic, clean Mexican food- it’s like the final frontier that hadn’t been conquered. That is until going to @lalasmexcafe in Dallas! _ This place is next level when it comes to their food. Organic chicken, Grassfed beef, pastured eggs, organic corn tortilla chips...oh and I can’t forget that they literally serve @sietefoods chips too if you want and homemade jicama chips! Not too mention their vegan queso. The whole time my mouth was doing a happy dance! I got to meet the owner and she was the sweetest. Hooking us up with so much food! _ Check out my stories to see all the goodness we had there. I have to say the Grassfed beef jicama taco was my fave, along with the zucchini chicken enchilada. But then I could have eaten a bowl of the vegan queso too🤷🏼‍♀️😂 _ Bottom line, if you’re in the Dallas area and want real clean Mexican food done right- then head to @lalasmexcafe! I'm not an expert on the topic but I am on a quest to be an expert on my own body. It's possible that before I would have shied away from a post on this but if it could empower just one woman to look a little deeper, ask more questions, & to know their body better I would be over the moon 🌙⠀ ⠀ We're talking female stuff but if you are a guy in a relationship this could be for you too. First of all, let's let go of the belief that awful PMS, irregular periods, abnormally heavy flows, dramatic moods swings, night sweats, etc are NORMAL. We are taught to believe that they are and that we just need to learn to deal.⠀ ⠀ When I feel like crap or notice that something feels off, I try to figure out a way to support my body through it. Research & several podcasts have led me to a possible solution that further fuels my notion that #FOODISMEDICINE. All of these problems stem from a hormone imbalance that can be significantly improved by consuming seeds in a specific rotation throughout your cycle. ⠀ ⠀ Flax & pumpkin seeds for days 1-15 to naturally increase estrogen levels. Estrogen builds up our uterine lining during the follicular phase. Sesame & sunflower seeds for days 15-30 stimulate progesterone production which prepares the uterine lining for implantation (b/c even if you're not ready to get pregnant, making sure that things are working properly now is essential to your future fertility and current well-being).⠀ ⠀ I could talk longer about this but it's getting long. If you're on birth control for symptoms related to your cycle or for contraceptive I urge you to dig deep and understand what's happening internally. BC is handed out to girls, often unnecessarily. I downloaded the MyFlo app after a recommendation from a friend & I'm excited to be tracking & learning every day!⠀ ⠀ I whipped up these seed balls to ensure I get my flax & pumpkin seeds since we are traveling! I use ground seeds & store them in the fridge to preserve freshness. These are 1/4 cup ground flax, 1/4 cup ground pumpkin seeds, 1/4 cup coconut oil, 1/4 cup almond butter, & 3 dates. Can you tell I threw them together quickly & didn't get too creative on the measurements?

Cherry / Flax / Almond Butter Yogurt Bowl 🙌 .. .. Started the morning with this delicious yogurt bowl! This has been my breakfast most days this week (if I have breakfast...some days I fast till lunch)...The protein and fiber seriously keeps me satiated and balances my blood sugar for HOURS!! .. Details: ✨Unsweetened plain Greek yogurt. ✨ @bobsredmill Gluten free oats (raw). ✨flax seeds (ground in my @vitamix ). ✨almond butter. ✨Frozen cherries cut in half and left out for 5 min to get a little soft. ✨ @traderjoes Unsweetened coconut flakes. .. .. A little info about flax seeds: Flax seeds are really such an underrated super food! They have protein, tons of fiber, and healthy fats. They are the highest food source of lignans which help prevent breast and other cancers, help with heart disease and act as anti-oxidants .... On top of all this, they are cheap! Much cheaper than chia or hemp, and they really do rival, if not surpass, the health benefits!!!🙌🙌🙌 a great strategy is to rotate between those three seeds to get the benefits each one has! .. .. We are headed to the beach today on a family trip with my husbands’ WHOLE family!! It’s gonna be fun...but a little crowded and interesting! Anyway, this yogurt bowl should keep me full long enough that I won’t have to eat on the way down....even if everyone else wants to stop and get fast food!!🤪🤪🤪. I’ve learned the only person you can control is YOURSELF!!! So that’s my goal this trip ...just to mind my own health and eating and not worry about anyone else...your example is much more powerful than your words!!!! Obvio yo Le hice unos toques muy 👋🏽.( leche de coco, Porque no me gusta la leche De 🐮) sin cambiarle el sabor ni perder del sazón, porque a decir verdad eso es lo más importante en cada preparación. Como sabes soy de las que no sigo recetas exactas porque no me gusta, pero esta si o si toca porque si no su sabor no es el Ethelita. Juradismo yo ya lo intente. Cosas que no se modifican: la cáscara de naranja, vainilla, clavos, canela y nuez moscada. Ingredientes 1 Taza y media de #arrozarborio Especies( Una astilla de #canela , nuez moscada un tilin, 5 clavos de olor, una cucharada de vainilla) La cáscara de una naranja grande y dulce. 1 lata de crema de coco 1 lata de leche condensada 2 tazas de leche de coco Media taza de agua. 20 gr de #azucardecoco tilin de sal, 8 dátiles picados finamente Procedimiento 1. Lavael arroz con agua muy fría. 2. En una #olla agrega el arroz, el azúcar de coco,las especies excepto la vainilla, la cascara 🍊, leche de coco y el agua. Pon el arroz a fuego alto hasta que hierva y baja la temperatura a media, pon una tapa y deja cocinar por 15 minutos. 3. Pasado los 15 minutos o hasta que puedas ver el arroz con poca agua, agrega el resto de ingredientes y deja cocinar por 5 minutos. Revuelve con cuchara de madera, deja reposar, saca las especies y 🍊 antes de servir, y listo tienes tu delicioso arroz con leche. I’ve been trying to eat less meat at dinner which means I cut my usual portion in half and added one more veggie to my plate. I steamed asparagus and the last of my Brussels sprouts and caramelized onions, bell peppers and zucchini in a little olive oil and red wine vinegar. So far I’m loving the less meat thing (easier to cook too!) but we will see how it all goes. Posted a story while I was cooking this

I was recently asked by a friend my thoughts on Soylent, a nutrition shake that claims to be a complete meal in a bottle. Apparently it's all the rage in DC and I'm out of the cool kids club so wasnt aware of this new fad. I get upset when drinks like this come out because people that drink them want to be healthy and are trying hard to make positive changes in their life but they are misled. I cannot even see how this drink is healthy! There are some shakes out there that aren't perfect but they still may be a better option for some people eating bagels for breakfast. I just want to mention some precautions on smoothies, protein shakes, etc. So this company says "food is much easier when it's a drink." This brings up a good point. I am not totally against smoothies and juices and protein shakes... they can be used as part of a healthy diet if they are of the highest quality. However, its important to teach your body to eat mindfully and make mealtime an activity. Not rushing out the door drinking a smoothie. Plus, our digestive systems work when we CHEW our food. So just be careful if you're replacing meals with these shakes and smoothies and bars on the go. Variety: we often become intolerant to foods we eat all the time (if you have compromised digestion). This means that if you're eating or drinking the same shake, bar, or even spinach smoothie, you may become intolerant to it. Watch out for: Soy: this mimics estrogen in the body and can cause hormonal imbalance. Concerning a lot of muscle milks guys drink have soy in them! Quality: non-gmo or organic. Gluten: gluten is that crazy controversial elephant in the room and the butt of jokes.. but the truth is that most people are intolerant. This company says its not safe for celiacs. Canola oil: inflammatory processed oil. Folic acid: this is the synthetic form of folate and can be toxic. Artificial flavors: who knows how these are created Doesnt need to be refrigerated: what preservatives are in here!! Whey: is it organic and grassfed? Quinoa, oats, other grains: while these can be healthy, consuming daily can be irritating to the gut. See my blog for alternatives to Soylent!!

So the other night, I decided to do a little experiment 📒 I made my typical stir-fry but I only used about 1/2 cup of brown rice...the rest was riced cauliflower 🍚 I wanted to see if my husband would even notice. After the first few bites, he said “This is really good.” When he had a few bites left, I said “Do you notice anything different about it...?” He carefully took another bite, stared at his plate for a while, and then just said “Uhh...no?” Haha so I’d say it was a success 👌🏻I never suggest tricking your kids into eating veggies, but since my husband is already grown that’s pretty much my last resort 😂

It’s Friday so I’m celebrating with TACOS 💃 By the end of the week my fridge is always looking bare so I just put what’s left in tortillas and I’m never disappointed 🌮 Yesterday @rachaelsgoodeats was making her cilantro avocado sauce 🥑 I didn’t check out her recipe but made a cilantro avocado sauce with jalapeños that I’m sure is pretty similar to hers 🙌🏻 Love getting inspo from other foodies 💚 I drizzled it on my tacos with chopped bibb lettuce, chicken sausage, the pico I made yesterday and extra chopped jalapeños and cilantro 🌱 It was so good but I was literally sweating while I was eating from the heat of the jalapeños 🔥😅 Hope everyone enjoys their Friday! I’m getting my hair cut and highlighted this afternoon ✂️ It’s much needed since I haven’t been to a salon since February 🤦🏼‍♀️ #jensbowl

One of my favourite ever Pie & Mashes was from this little cafe when I was in Dublin @feedmepieman... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Chicken & Mushroom is my pie of choice - but I don’t mind a Steak & Ale from time to time 😜 Always with 2 scoops of mash & covered in gravy hmmmmm... a very naughty meal but its worth it.
