1. What fabric and pattern did you use for this blazer and why?
I saw a designer jacket I loved but it was very dear and I figured I could create something similar enough from By Hand London's Victoria blazer pattern, and the right fabric, which was a vintage wool I found at Drapers Fabrics, because the wool was over 50 years old, I almost put it back owing to a watermark that ran right through the roll, but am so glad I didn't as you can't even see it on the finished piece.
2. How did you get into sewing?
I started sewing just two years ago - it was a compulsory subject at my all girls school as a kid and I hated it because I felt it was sexist (the boys at the school next door got wood and metal work). I was 12 when I paid a seamstress to make me an apron and pillow for an assignment (I got an A ;)). But after years of working in fashion - both high end and fast - I learnt that I loved clothes, but wanted to opt out of the consumer process. And so I found my way back to sewing, and now I spend half my time daydreaming about it...
