Welcome to the final day of #AyurvedaYogaAndYou - at first a big and heartfelt thanks to everyone for participating with such dedication and enthusiasm. This was not a contemporary topic and I did have some doubt if we would get enough participation - but what a pleasant surprise and much gratitude to everyone who joined us. 🙏🏼 . Today we cover the last constitution type called Sama Prakriti - those who have equal measure of all three doshas. These people are extremely rare and they have a perfectly balanced constitution which does not get disturbed easily. Treatments for them are generally based on immediate symptoms or seasons as they have no inherent biases. . As their physical constitution is generally sturdy, they can focus more on the next and more subtle level of purifying the Mind. . Now the Psychological Constitution is not categorised as per the Doshas, but by Gunas or the three forces of nature. They are Sattva, Rajas and Tamas and roughly these represent light, movement and inertia. Sattva is pious, Rajas egoistic and Tamas lethargic. These three are the root cause of everything that exists - they even create the 5 elements and doshas. . That is why today I’ve shared a few breath centric movements which are a great way to improve mind-body awareness for more subtle yoga practices. These can be done before pranayama and meditation as well. You can find the full video on youtube - link in bio.❤️ . How to breathe in these: #1: Inhale as you rise up, exhale down #2: Inhale arms out, exhale in #3: Inhale arms up, exhale down #4: Inhale one arm up, exhale down #5: Inhale cactus arms, exhale arms over chest #6: Inhale arms up, exhale down . Wow day 5 already!! I chose reverse warrior or Viparita Virabhadrasana but do go over to @yoganama and see how its done and learn much more. . #Repost @yoganama • • • Welcome to Day 5 or #AyurvedaYogaAndYou 🌷. Today we cover Pitta-Kapha Dosha. . I’ve chosen Viparita Virabhadrasana as it is an energetic posture with a slight back bend and covers the requirements of both Kapha and Pitta. Now here’s a challenge: Kapha requires this posture to be held for long but pitta needs only a moderate hold. Which one to practice? . First, usually one dosha will be more out of balance than the other. In summers maybe pitta will be agitated and kapha in winters. So, one way to address this is by not holding the pose too long in the hot season and doing the opposite in the cold season. . Second, our entire practice sequence overall should be beneficial for our nature. We should not get too caught up in the individual Asanas as it is mostly about the sequencing. Each person will indeed have some extra emphasis on the postures suitable for them - but as an integral part of a complete overall practice. . Do check out the recommendations of Nishtha and Ania! . Welcome to Day 6 or #AyurvedaYogaAndYou 🌷. Today we cover Vata-Kapha Dosha. . I’ve chosen Vashishtasana A as it requires focus and grounding and also generates heat - something VK types need as they are both ‘cold’ in nature. . V and K are diametrically opposite in that Vata likes to move around but Kapha likes to stay - so it requires careful management to keep both in balance. Too much movement would aggravate their vata and too much inertia would upset their vata. Their requirements would fluctuate by season and hence they should be open to what their body needs at any time. . Now a quick Q&A 🙃. . Q1. What is Prakriti? . A1. It is our Ayurvedic constitution - the specific proportion of all three Doshas that we are born with. The test you’ve taken which tells you whether you’re Vata or Pitta-Kapha etc are Prakriti tests. Our Prakriti never changes, in fact it is decided at the time of conception itself. . Q2. What is Vikriti? . A2. It is the current proportion of doshas in our body. Due to lifestyle choices or stress or any other factor our current nature may have become imbalanced and different from what we were meant to be. That is Vikriti. . Q3. How to check what your Vikriti is? . A3. An Ayurvedic Doctor can assess it for you through various methods including the pulse rate. . Q3. What is good physical health? . When our Prakriti and Vikriti are the same. Essentially, when we are true to our unique nature and living according to it. If you’ve read the Gita - this was in a way also the message of Krishna to Arjuna. 🙏🏼 . Day 5: #AyurvedaYogaAndYou Asana choice: #paryankasana #veerabadrasana #marichyasana. This is a powerful combination, as it comprises of the disciplined and stable quality of a Kapha and driven and competitive quality of a Pitta. They display great mental & physical strength. ▫️This is a strong combination amongst other doshic types. Power of Agni and robust earthy quality. ▫️The high pitta in you keeps you driven and strong-willed and that unites with a sedated and grounded Kapha which doesn’t get flustered too easy! ▫️Keeping the above traits in mind, they are known to have natural leadership qualities ▫️Their built can be medium to large with strong physicality ▫️Most athletes are this combination. ▫️The imbalances displayed by a Pitta (anger, acidity) and that by a Kapha (lazy, congested) tend to neutralize each other, reducing the impact of it. ▫️These are the planners, goal-driven, yet patient and cautious type ▫️Weight gain is the one to watch out for in this type as they can be big eaters! The key in a mix is to always identify the more dominant one, and accordingly adopt diet, lifestyle & exercises.😊 Information courtesy:@nishtabijlani This is actually giving me a idea of my prakrithi! Welcome to Day 3 or #AyurvedaYogaAndYou . Today we cover Kapha Dosha. . I chose bridge pose, i couldnt get my arms to push up enough to get my head off the ground and could only hold a few seconds(even after 1 hour very slow practice). Asana Standing poses, backbends and inversions are particularly good for Kapha . Each person will indeed have some extra emphasis on the postures suitable for them - but as an integral part of a complete overall practice. . Now here are the answers to some questions I asked in my stories: . Q1: Kapha holds things together and gives stability . Q2: Vata gets deranged with improper breathing and can then create mental imbalances. (Only if we do pranayama ‘correctly’ Agni or pitta increases, technically that is not an imbalance, increasing Agni (fire) is in fact our main objective) . Q3: Cold with congestion: Kapha imbalance . Q4: Cold with fever and throat pain: Pitta imbalance (because of inflammation - swelling, redness, sores... A vata type would have dry cough and hoarse voice) . Q5: Pitta should be careful with headstands . Do check out the recommendations of Nishtha and Ania! . Day 4: #ayurvedayogaandyou Dosha: Vata|Pitta Asana #parivrttatrikonasana #upavishtakonasana #anantasana *dual dosha prakriti🔥💧 Vata and Pitta share certain qualities: sharp and light. When combined they tend towards lightness. Another way to look at it would be like a hot Vata: all the qualities of Vata, but with a tendency towards warm(Uṣṇavāta = warm vata). 🌩IMBALANCE When both doshas go out of balance, they actually increase with the same qualities: you will need coolness, since you tend to feel warmer. Welcome to Day 4 or #AyurvedaYogaAndYou 🌷. Today we cover Vata-Pitta Dosha. . Hopefully by now you’ve got a fair understanding of the Doshas so today I’ll answer a common question - Should we only practice the Asanas that are suitable for our condition and not the others? . Short answer is no, we must practice all variety of Asanas which are sequenced well and pace the practice as per our inherent Prakriti or Constitution. Just like a good meal should have all the six tastes, a good asana practice should have all categories of postures like standing, sitting inversions, backbends, twists etc. . For instance, if vata is out of whack your body will naturally crave a yin like slow grounded practice to relax and release. If we’re going through a Kapha imbalance because we went out partying, eating unhealthy mucus forming foods then very likely we will feel too lazy to wake up and move - that’s probably not the time to do yin but the time to push ourselves and do a wholesome yoga session. . This is a general principle but takes a fair bit of self-practice, self-assessment and self-study. And remember that nothing can replace the guidance of a good teacher ❤️🙏🏼. . Now quick tip about ‘dual’ type personalities when more than one Dosha is predominant like Vata-Pitta. In such cases dietary and herbal interventions focus on strengthening the third Dosha. However in Yoga there are Asanas that work equally on both Doshas. For today I’ve chosen one such posture which is Anantasana - it’s again a single leg lift which helps Vata and is a supported stretch which is relaxing for Pitta. 🙏🏼 . Do check out the recommendations of Nishtha and Ania! . 🔹Hosts🔹 @nishthabijlani  @yoga_ania @yoganama . 🔶Sponsors🔶 @kairali_the_healing_village  @yogaessentialsindia @reynaturals @kayashastra @vayumudra @rraveit @themohalife @kapivaayurveda @erisolbijoux @bstaofficial . #ayurveda #ayurvedalife #kapah #dosha #yoga #yogini #yoganama #relaxwityoganama #mumbaiyoga #indianyogini #yogateacher #wellnessguide #yogapose #yogaforbeginners #yogachallenge #Yogisofinstagram #yogaathome #yoga4growth #anantasana #igyogachallenges #vishnuscouchpose #yogatutorial

Welcome to Day 3 or #AyurvedaYogaAndYou I worked on practicing the asana by @yoganama Though love doing Setu banshadsna have tried my best to do viparita dandasana. Something magical about this asana 🙏 It's day three and slowly I am understanding that we belong to all three doshas in a way as per situations , surroundings and climatic conditions. Just that one of them is dominant Today we cover Kapha Dosha . Kapha is earth and water which gives us structure, form and lubricates our tissues. In excess it makes us rigid, lethargic and fixed in our ways. Physically it manifests as obesity, bulkiness, emotional attachment and most of all congestion. . Kapha people are very loving, kind and gentle. They cement relationships, are loyal, great listeners and provide stability - which means you can always count on them. A trait, that is very rare in our world today. . 🔸Asana🔸 Standing poses, backbends and inversions are particularly good for Kapha, so I’ve chosen Viparita Dandasana. 🔸Diet🔸 Kapha metabolism is sluggish so spices and hot foods are welcome. Salads and raw vegetables are also recommended as they decrease excess tissue. Fruits should be kept minimum. 🔸Style🔸 Kapha types can do the dynamic vinyasa type practices but they must build capacity slowly and gradually. Kapha has a tendency towards blockage and heart disease so sudden high intensity workouts can be dangerous for them. . 🔸Time🔸 Morning and evening practice is good for them - but they tend to be slow risers, so the earlier they start the better. They may need a cup of coffee or tea and a loud alarm clock or two to get started. :) 🔹Hosts🔹 @nishthabijlani  @yoga_ania @yoganama . 🔶Sponsors🔶 @kairali_the_healing_village  @yogaessentialsindia @reynaturals @kayashastra @vayumudra @rraveit @themohalife @kapivaayurveda @erisolbijoux @bstaofficial #ayurveda #ayurvedalife #kapah #dosha #yoga #yogini #yoganama #relaxwityoganama #mumbaiyoga #indianyogini #yogateacher #wellnessguide #yogapose #yogaforbeginners #yogachallenge #Yogisofinstagram #yogaathome #yoga4growth #viparitadandasana #igyogachallenges #invertedstaffpose #yogatutorial #ancientwisdom #happiness #gratitude

Today i chose variation of Supta Virasana for Pitta Doshas. . Even though i am Vata dominant i do see some Pitta at times. This was very relaxing! #Repost @yoganama • • • Welcome to Day 2 or #AyurvedaYogaAndYou 🌷. Today we cover Pitta Dosha. . #Pitta is primarily fire - in excess it makes us short tempered, egoistic and opinionated. Physically it manifests as ulcers, acidity, inflammation, fevers, skin rashes and hypertension (a typical pitta problem). . PItta can get aggravated by eating hot spicy foods, getting angry at someone, over stressing ourselves, too much time under the sun, in front of the fire and so on. Pitta is countered by staying cool -physically and mentally. . 🔸Asana🔸 Forward bends, gentle backbends, inversions like plow, Shitali pranayama type nurturing and cooling practices benefit pitta. Intense backbends are helpful in moderation but can provoke it - so repeating them a few times is better than holding them for too long. I’ve chosen Supta Virasana because it is a preparatory backbend - which makes it mildly intense and relaxing. Perfect for the current season in India which aggravates pitta. Welcome to Day 1 or #AyurvedaYogaAndYou - today we talk about Vata Dosha. . As shared earlier - Vata comes from the wind element which in excess creates movement, tremors, agitation, nervousness and fear. It’s typical characteristics are dry skin, fidgeting, restless legs, inability to concentrate, talking too fast etc. Equally, running around, too much talking or long travel can throw Vata out of balance. . People of Vata constitution are more susceptible to such aggravation but all of us can be at risk either due to our lifestyle, season changes or specific health conditions. . 🔸Asana🔸 I’ve chosen Urdhva Prasarita Padottanasana to balance Vata for two reasons. One - it is a single leg forward bend and such asanas are great for alleviating Vata. Two - it is a standing balance, something Vata people need as it forces them to focus and concentrate at one point rather than being all over the place with their thoughts. . 🔸Diet🔸 Vata types do best with a heavy and wholesome diet which can include milk, ghee, rice etc. Salads and raw foods tend to make them constipated and gassy. Hingvashatak is considered the best general Ayurvedic formula for this constitution. . 🔸Style🔸 Vata suitable Asanas should be slow paced with long holds. Fast moving, exercise type practices are detrimental and make them more ‘spaced’ out. . 🔸Time🔸 Vata needs warmth and they should practice in a comfortable room which is not cold or damp. Their body may be too stiff in very early hours of the morning and hence a good time is between sunrise and 10am. . Do check out the recommendations of Nishtha and Ania! . 🔹Hosts🔹 @nishthabijlani  @yoga_ania @yoganama . 🔶Sponsors🔶 @kairali_the_healing_village  @yogaessentialsindia @reynaturals @kayashastra @vayumudra @rraveit @themohalife @kapivaayurveda @erisolbijoux @bstaofficial . #ayurveda #ayurvedalife #vata #dosha #yoga #yogini #yoganama #relaxwityoganama #mumbaiyoga #indianyogini #yogateacher #wellnessguide #yogapose #yogaforbeginners #yogachallenge #Yogisofinstagram #yogaathome #yoga4growth #urdhvaprasaritaekapadasana #igyogachallenges #standingsplit
