We have some environmental battles ahead of us. Even though the need for wild places untouched by human society is increasing exponentially each year - just look at the crowds gathered at trailheads, campgrounds and park entrances! - the current administration wants to open them up to extractive industries. In Utah, those in charge are trying to start a new breed of National Parks, one that hands over a majority of the management to locals biased toward industrial interests. The EPA is rolling back environmental protections, the dinosaur coal industry is being given a shot in the arm, science is routinely viewed as "liberal," and climate change is denied. To sustain ourselves throughout this fight, we are going to need a steady dose of the silence, solitude, peace and beauty of wild places. And that is what I aim to provide with my photos and reflective posts . . .
