We had the best morning this morning at the newly opened The Patch @ , Athelstaneford, East Lothian.
The whole family had an amazing time; we picked our pumpkins for Halloween, including a 10.8kg one which my little boy picked!; had a fantastic play in the hay bale maze; drank and ate some delicious hot chocolate, pumpkin cake and cookies, and coffee from the fabulous @ who have decked out a horse box which is just amazing; played with the interactive boards; read pumpkin facts; spotted scarecrows; bought some more culinary pumpkins, festival one this time, and last but not least the kids tucked into their Halloween goody bags!
Lucy and Russell, and their kids, have worked so hard on their new addition to their farm. We heard from Lucy about all the work they have have put into the patch and how passionate they are about growing locally available produce, and helping kids understand where their food comes from which is one thing I am also very passionate about. They planted 5,000 pumpkin seeds, BY HAND!!!, and have grown 7 pumpkin varieties, 4 carving pumpkins and 3 culinary ones. I have tried the ‘Tractor’ and Buddha’ varieties and have used them in the Spiced Pumpkin Muffins I have baked recently, such deliciously different culinary varieties. They planted a test patch last year which was a huge success so they have gone all out this year and planted lots more and opened it to the public!
Congratulations to you both, it’s just amazing, you have thought of everything. Such a welcomed addition to East Lothian. And thanks very much for the invite, we had a fabulous fun family time 🧡 .
