SutiSana - a “healed name.” “The name SutiSana has roots in the two languages spoken by the women - Aymara and Spanish. In Aymara, Suti means name. In Spanish, Sana means healthy or healed. As women leave prostitution, they often leave behind a name they used there and find a new identity - a Healed Name. When we see this, we can’t help but think of the verse Isaiah 62:2, “you will be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord will bestow.”” @ works to provide dignified employment and a new life to women attempting to leave prostitution in El Alto, Bolivia. These are women who often had little education, were the sole providers for their families, and had no other choice than turning to prostitution.
Now these are the women who sew together beautiful bags, pouches, coin purses, and clutches that you can find here in our shop! They’re given fair wages and benefits, supported through real community, and given opportunities for both occupational and spiritual growth.
God is transforming lives in Bolivia through SutiSana and their parent organization, Word Made Flesh, and New Things is grateful to be a part of it all! If you’re looking for some unique Christmas gifts that help in this changing of lives, look no further! 🎁
