[AOM EPISODE 196] . 🔶SHOULDER PREHAB WARMUP🔶 . Warming up the shoulders and engaging the rotator cuff muscles is an absolute must before performing upper body workouts! ✊ The shoulder joint is one that requires tremendous mobility and has to be able to move freely in three different planes. 🤸‍♂️ Because of this, the shoulder joint requires dynamic stability from the muscles that support the shoulder joint, namely the rotator cuff muscles, as well as the neighbouring scapular stabilizers. . Today we’re using a banded warm-up to: . 🔸Promote blood flow to the shoulder musculature 🔸Prime the rotator cuff muscles and scapular stabilizers for movement. 🔸Promote single arm stability in multiple weight bearing positions . Here is the order of the drills, in sequence from the easiest to the hardest progressions: . 🔸4 point banded clocks . 🔸Banded clocks in a plank position (increased single arm load) 🔸Lateral banded bear crawls . . Brooo what do you take? Honestly? Nah come on man what’re you eating, nothing? Uhm, no I eat, and uhm no, I don’t take anything except your everyday workout supplements. Unless you consider “taking” time out of my day to go work on myself. I’ve been at the gym consistently since about 2013. Day in and out. Losing weight, gaining muscle, whatever your looking for will not come over night. You have to keep at that shit like there’s no tomorrow. You have to make sacrifices. Long work days but I still make time to go to the gym if it’s 2pm or 2am. Make time. Take what’s rightfully yours. I think shoulders have become one of my top favorite days to train. Cuffs: one of my new tools for shoulder day... The deltoid is a pretty small muscle group, and it's easy for other muscle groups (traps, biceps, triceps, etc.) to take over isolation movements. The fewer the joints you involve, the fewer muscle groups you recruit, which makes cuffs a great tool for isolating the delts.

Had some company working out tonight. The youngest did the whole 30 minute workout with me. Using water bottles as his weights. Just warmed my heart (yes I have a heart sometimes) seeing him smiling and getting after it. The last set is when the older ones joined in and finished out with abs. They were laughing but they figured out pretty quickly how not easy it was. Good lesson here. They are always watching. Let yourself set the good example, so they know taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of everyone else.

I don’t think I’ve seen another machine like this in any other gym, but if you have it give it a try! This is probably my favorite shoulder press machine I’ve used yet! With this it takes the barbell out obviously but with that it almost makes the bar path straight up. With a bar I tend to almost do like a standing incline bench😂so these really help keep your back straight, and injury free! And you can turn around and do some viking presses! We all go through seasons 🍁 . . I was doing some of my readings the other day from ancient Biblical archaeology (random elective), and was struck by one on agriculture: . “Two months of ingathering, two months of sowing, two months of late sowing, two months of flax, one month of barley harvest, one month of harvest and completion, two months of grape cutting, one month of summer fruits.” . . Why did this passage resonate with me? Because you can relate it to the sport of bodybuilding, and life in general. We must change seasons in order to reap a bountiful harvest from what we sow. If we don’t give our body or mind the necessary time to develop (sow), then we cannot not progress or produce (reap). We can’t possibly stay in a year-long harvest, because we would be digging from an empty crop . . Moral of the thought: embrace periods of growth. Whether it be offseason, school, starting up a company, or work.
