Constant change is here to stay! The Big Beautiful Book of Bass features over 400 pages of vintage basses from numerous manufacturers around the world. One brand that really caught me by surprise was Höfner, the venerable producer of violins, cellos and double basses, founded in the late 1800's but only getting into guitar production in the 1930's. Here is a snippet from the Höfner chapter, which shows a variety of their electric bass styles, including this: a 1960 500/1 "Violin" Bass. Its body style was popularized by you-know-who... er... that guy who was in the Beatles, whatshisname again? It has the same violin shape as the one he so famously used, with some small but important differences. I've gone to great lengths in the BBBoB to show the the myriad changes that obsessed Höfner from the mid-50's right through to the late 60's. I hope you enjoy this beauty, as it's my current fave and one of the best sounding Höfners in the collection.
