Been thinking about making some sort of native comic based on authentic cultural knowledge and NOT the stereotypes that we often see in the media. Stories based on real events, as well as fiction , mostly before 1492 but some stories after 1492. Violent but no different than Spawn or some other adult oriented comes. Unfortunately no sexy costumes, sorry folks, but I would be telling stories through a spiritual indigenous cultural lens. Many of our cultures were matrilineal which meant that the land, children, etc., were owned by the women and lineage as “property” were passed down through the mothers side. We had great respect for the women, the water, and Mother Earth, all of which give us life. To objectify them would be harmful (not to mention completely disrespectful) to all humans as it tears up our physical, emotional ,mental, spiritual, and social fabric. I want to tell stories about powerful spirits (some violent tricksters and evil medicine ppl, some great peacemakers and knowledge keepers), medicine ppl, and powerful warriors , clans, and houses. I know we will do a waaaaay better job than Hollywood with their divisive sexist media moguls. No competition, like how many times can they tell stories like dances with wolves, avatar, last of the mohicans, etc. Recycling the same crap over and over lol it’s done, no one likes that garbage. We got the real stuff. I always steal the spotlight away from those stereo typical dream catchers and headdress. Just like one of my elders always told me “you have to know the story. That’s our culture, it gets passed down, you can’t just make stuff up, that’s not our culture, you can’t just make up the culture.” No romanticization either (those were NEVER our stories but others peoples fantasies of us!), just powerful indigenous stories and characters.
