"Clash for a companion." 20x24
Oils over acrylics
This is a painting is one that i started on Halloween, the idea i had for this was a really dark misty morning sunrise over a mountain lake, with really very little color. I found that the further along i got into this painting, the less that idea seemed able. I ended up changing this mountain lake last minute, and put in this beautiful meadow, i realized that the water reflection would be much too dark to place these magnificent moose in front of. I decided to lighten this whole painting up and bring some sunshine to the valley with this flowing meadow. Although a nice touch, i feel as if the story here lies between these two monstrous bull moose.. I imagine its October, the rut for these guys is in full swing, the bigger bull is in this meadow looking for a mate when this younger bull decides that "ahhh hes not so big" and presents himself as a challenger to the big guy. The bigger bull is grunting and puffing himslef up to scare of the challenge. So i sit at a distance in an opening, and i watch the rivals in this barbaric fashion.
