Gil-Galad, originally named Ereinion, was a Ñoldorin Elf, son of Fingon. He was the last High King of the Ñoldor in Middle-Earth, and bore many titles, including High King of the Elves of the West, King of the Eldar, King of Lindon, Lord of the High Elves, and the Lord of Eriador. He lived in Nargothrond until it's fall and escaped, and eventually came to the Mouths of Sirion. After the death of Turgon during the Fall of Gondolin, Gil-Galad received the Kingship of the Ñoldor. After the War of the Wrath, the remaining Sons of Feanor vanished out of history. Maedhros committed suicide while Maglor disappeared without a trace, leaving Elrond and Elros alone. Therefore he welcomed Elrond to his ranks. In Year 1 of the Second Age, Gil-Galad established Lindon and extended eastward as far as the Misty Mountains. Gil-Galad had an alliance with the Men of Westernesse. During his reign as High King of the Ñoldor, he was given the seeds of mellym trees by Tar-Aldarion. However these seeds would not grow in his land so he gave them to Galadriel before she left Lindon. At some point Elrond and Gil-Galad were approached by Annatar, who called himself the Lord of Gifts. But Gil-Galad perceived that Annatar was not what he seemed and refused dealings with him. Gil-Galad formed the Last Alliance against Sauron and fought Sauron with Elendil. They had wounded Sauron enough to destory his body, but in return were dealt mortal wounds. Gil-Galad fought with his famed spear of Aeglos, and Elendil with Narsil.
