The saying he wrote for Spiderman
"With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" will always be remembered. A saying that can define someone when they're faced with change.
But I'd like to say something about another he's said. Not in comic books, but one he's said in several interviews to others when asked:
Why? Why do you do this?
His answer? Because he wanted to make people happy. A simple answer, but a very deep one at that.
As a Spidey Cosplayer, that rings even more so.
To see the smiles and laughter we bring to children, families, the disabled and unfortunate and fans alike when we appear in costume.
Brings them a sense of escape. From the pain and worries of the day, to just being happy in the moment. A fantastical feeling.
It's empowering, and thus becomes a responsibility:
To keep Stan Lee's purpose alive. To keep entertaining and making everyone happy. To make them forget about their worries, theirs fears. To give them a high five or a heroes pose to empower them. To laugh. To Smile.
Just know that behind these masks we still mourn for such a legend as we strike a spidey pose...
but we're also smiling because you're smiling, and he's still smiling behind those sunglasses too 😎
Thank you Stan Lee. EXCELSIOR!
