Here is #Russian #president #VladimirPutin when he was a child with his mother in #StPetersburg in the 50s. Times were not easy for the people living there.
During #WorldWarTwo his father also named Vladimir #Putin, was in the #Soviet army and when #AdolfHitler invaded in #1941 he fought against the #Nazi invaders at the battle of #Leningrad. Putin's father was traumatized by all the people he saw get killed by the Germans and was even almost sent to a #gulag by #JosephStalin for trying to retreat the battle as #Stalin threatened anyone who tried to retreat would be deported to #Siberia with their families.
Putin's mother, Maria had given birth to two sons before #WorldWar2 started. During the battle for Leningrad (St Petersburg) #Hitler ordered that Leningrad be completely destroyed. To make sure no one in Leningrad would be able to get food, the #Nazis bombed the farms of Leningrad causing food shortages. As a result of this, Putin's two older brothers died during the war before he was born. The Nazis also killed Putin's grandmother.
In #1952, Maria gave birth to Vladimir Putin. One year later, Stalin died and #NikitaKhruschev became the new leader of the #SovietUnion.
Putin grew up very poor as #Russia's #economy had not been fixed since the war. He grew up in a dirty apartment where he would have fun chasing rats. Because he didn't grow up during either Hitler's #invasion or Stalin's rule, Putin did not feel the fear of the rest of the city.
Despite this he was a violent child in #school as he had brought a knife in to class and got very bad reports from his teachers.
This certainly does sound like a #sad backstory but don't let it make you feel bad for him. Putin rose to power and went on to committe #crimes just bad as those of Hitler and Stalin's.
