✨THE EFFECTS OF SUGAR ON THE BODY✨ As you all know by now I turned Plant Based Vegan in order to help heal after a car accident. And boy did it work! Eating plant based allows me to continue working out and staying essentially pain free. I am prone to inflammation though at my injury points: knee, hip, wrist, shoulder and neck. After 2 knee surgeries I have arthritis in not just my knee but also my wrist and upper back. This weekend I flew home for a whirlwind trip for 3 different events. 2 family events and a surprise party for my best friend here in this photo. Jana came and sat with me in the hospital everyday when I was there, sitting in the chair at the edge of my hospital bed doing work while I was in and out of consciousness from medications, just so I wouldn’t be alone. I was more than happy to fly home early to give her an epic surprise on her 35th bday. We’ve been friends since we were born. But with 3 events came lots of dessert and wine. I started limping again yesterday walking through the airport, reminding me I overindulged this weekend. Will I gain 5lbs from it? No. Will a few desserts ruin my health? No! Many clients ask what to do when this happens. Today I woke up, drank 1L of water, had my oatmeal and picked up groceries for the week. All you do is just keep on keepin’ on! It will take me 2-3 days for my knee inflammation to back down again. And it’s ok! 90-95% of my year I am super healthy and love the food I eat. 5-10% of my year is traveling and enjoying events with friends and family. No one is asking you to be perfect. I eat this way because I feel incredible. It’s that simple. I’m not missing out because there’s loads of non dairy desserts. But sugar is vegan and acts quickly. Most people don’t have obvious signs like me. I got diagnosed with arthritis at 27 because of my accident. But inflammation is not just in joints. It’s in your skin, your stomach, your brain, your sleep, your energy, your mood, everywhere. Meat, dairy and sugar are the top inflammatory culprits. Cut down as much as you can. New study blows up the notion of “fat but fit.” Population of more than 6800 individuals followed for 12 years showed those overweight who initially fit the “fat but fit” definition - over 50% developed metabolic syndrome leading to cardiovascular disease. They concluded the notion of “fat but fit” is a temporary, transient condition which does not predict long term health and in most cases actually means someone who will progress to disease. The study concludes that overweight people, whether “fit” (meaning showing no current disease symptoms) or not - should work to lose excess weight in order to stave off likely illness. I have been vegan for 3 years now and although my diet has improved tremendously from the diet prior to going vegan. I have still struggled so much with processed foods and vegan junk food. For me, the best meal will always be a bunch of veggies with rice ( brown is better of course) and pasta. Sprinkle some seeds or nuts and some greens on top and you are ready to enjoy a bowl of goodness 😍😍👌 btw I'm trying out intermittened fasting at the moment. It's not as easy yet, but I feel like the key is to make sure that my dinner is big enough 😄 have you ever tried it as well? 😊

It’s on days like today that I appreciate batch cooking at the weekend. Remember the chickpeas I posted on Sunday morning? Well, here they are again and this time on toast with 🥑 Fibre✔️ Protein✔️ Complex carbs✔️ Iron✔️ Magnesium✔️ Vitamin B6✔️ Satiation 😜✔️ - There isn’t as much 🥑 as it looks, I’m just trying to use up what I have especially since I’m also cutting down on fats again. If you follow my other page @wellnesswithsomi you know I’ve been dealing with unusual-for-me bloating because I spent about 10 days eating way too much fat in my diet. I just don’t handle a high-fat diet anymore...I’m feeling much better now though 🙏🏽 - As a side note and because this is one of my FAQ, a key reason why you maybe experiencing bloating on a plant-based diet is not chewing your food properly. I am actually guilty of this, I’m usually rushing to do something else after eating or doing something while eating so I don’t think I chew my food more than 5 times before swallowing - ridiculous I know. - The problem is that you can’t always get away with this when eating whole foods. There’s way too much fibre for that. You need to help your stomach out by chewing each mouthful at least 20-30 times so that your stomach is not overworked trying to digest large pieces of food. Usually those large pieces end up getting fermented by bacteria and that’s what causes the bloating, burping, and flatulence... ............... #toasttuesday #chickpeas #wholefoodsdiet

Standing outside a slaughterhouse brings those fighting for the animals closer together. Sometimes it appears a bit weird at first. When the trucks aren’t there we joke and laugh and have good talks because we all become a big family, but as soon as those trucks come and those pigs are screaming the passion in all of us kicks in and things get really serious and emotional. I think maintaining a healthy mental state whilst at a Vigil is so Important and I want to thank all those who attend the vigils. Without their love and support it would be a very hard thing to experience. With endless hugs and a big group of people where every single person has every other persons back, it’s a powerful place to be ✌🏼 if you aren’t active and want to be, hit up @perthanimalsave or @perthpigsave ✌🏼 I personally believe it’s the right thing to do, but if you don’t then that’s also fine too 🌱 make an impact in the way that works best for you ✌🏼 Shout to these long haired ladies 🙏🏼 my beautiful girlfriend @beachybanana and my new yet good friend @hakunamaboo for making me look 8ft in this photo 😂🌱 📷 - @jaimefazackerley

Let’s talk carbs 🍚 (and note how hard I’m eying that rice cake with almond butter 🤣) . Carbs don’t have to be the enemy. They play an important role in glycogen replenishment & foods like sweet potatoes and beans are chalked full of vitamins & minerals ❤️ . Finding the right amount of carbs for you is really key. Depending on your activity level, insulin sensitivity & genotype, that can really vary. . When it comes to weight loss, playing with the amount of carbs & fats you have can play a role but that comes secondary to making sure you’re in a calorie deficit and are getting nutrition from mostly whole foods. . Finally, recent studies have shown some benefits to eating carbs at night so don’t be afraid to eat carbs past 6pm if it fits in your caloric total goals. . I love Lindbergh organic, non-gmo rice cakes but they fit my macros, are super easy & light and only have two ingredients: brown rice + sea salt. Credit: @meowmix

~ everything you here see is vegan! One guy who stayed at same hostel has cooked delight Chinese vegan dishes for me with noodles. I told him I’m vegan. With a lot of different vegetables he cooked with different kind of sauces. Some of dishes are not vegan (you don’t see it at picture).
