I have felt quite uninspired recently when it comes to this Instagram posting thing, but this evening reminded me of exactly why I do this. I LOVE FOOD. Not just eating it (yes that is good too), but it is so healing in so many ways. For me growing and making my own food is a therapy. It is grounding and truly awakens my soul. 👩🏼🌾👩🏼🌾
THIS is what I love most about summer, this huge bowl filled with home grown beautiful healing herbs and veggies. I love digging in the dirt and working in my garden, and I LOVE when that time and work spent in the soil returns such beautiful bounties as those I harvested this evening. It is SO REWARDING to me to carry in a basket overflowing with veggies, herbs, fruits, and greens into the house to wash and prepare for a meal. And I LOVE when Maisie sees new things and asks “oh what dis? Peas have some mama?” as she did to the celery I harvested tonight. 🥗🥗
I am so proud to say that tonight’s dinner was 99% local. All veggies and herbs in our salad were grown in our backyard, dressing was raw local honey & olive oil (not even close to local), chicken for the salad topper was from Eva’s butcher shop (technically Maine Family Farms), and my grandmother’s pitcher was filled with freshly picked backyard grown mint & lemon balm.
