Cortisol is a steroid hormone released in response to stress. Cortisol reduces inflammation in the body and helps control the sugar level and blood pressure. However in high quantities it is responsible for bone loss, muscle weakness, anxiety, depression, headaches, cognitive difficulties, fatigue, high blood pressure, decreased libido etc. This is a negative hormone that keeps us in a survival mode when in low quantities. When in large quantities it affects us both mentally and physically. It's important to identify the cause factors. These could be environmental such as work culture, transport or influenced by situations in our life for example tension between family members, not having a job, etc. We need to learn how to detach ourselves from these situations so that either this does not affect us emotionally or physically remove ourselves from this context. Positive thinking helps, dealing with the situation and solving it sooner than later helps on the long run. Identify the cause and remove it or do not allow it to control you. If you're enjoying a little extra fun (🍕🍷) this holiday season like me, be sure to balance it out with some kind of daily exercise and hormone happy meals in between! . I love to start each morning with a protein shake with protein, fat & fiber and the occasional slice of ekezial toast with some ghee. 😋 Then I try to wrap up early evening with a 45 minute swim at my local pool or a long walk with my husband and our pup Riley...🐶👫 If it's cold where you are, simply bundle up, walk briskly with some light hand weights and bring a canister of hot tea with you! 🍵 Breathing in the fresh air will lower your cortisol levels & walking briskly will tire you out so that you can sleep soundly at night...imperative for hormone balance! 😴 . Judgement . Today I wrote a blog about judgement of ourselves and of others and the detrimental effects that this can have on our emotions, our cortisol (stress) levels and subsequently our health . So I ask you...how do you feel about judgement? Is it something that is a part of your life? Do you judge yourself or others in a negative way? . If you answered yes then it’s important that you make attempts to overcome these thoughts. Non-judgement allows compassion, empathy and our ability to love to come through. It reduces stress and improves our health . Start listening to what you are thinking and judging about yourself and of others. Let the negative thoughts go .
