The human mind is so dumb 😩
• I’m at a point in my training where I don’t know how to rest. I’ve built up the habit of working out everyday, and sometimes I worry that if I take a break, then I’ll snowball back into not working out. Odd isn’t it? I feel like most people struggle to get to the gym, yet I struggle to keep myself away from the gym. It’s hard because I don’t feel like many people can relate to this particular struggle or don’t think it’s a big deal, but it mentally takes a huge toll on me.
• I know it’s silly, but it’s still a thought that I have often. We all have stupid thoughts like this that make no sense when we really think about them. If I take a moment to think it out, to talk it out, it makes me feel so much better. It’s just a matter of whether or not I allow these dumb thoughts to have control over me. I struggle so much, so often, but I try to reevaluate these stupid thoughts and that seems to make all the difference for me. Our mind is something we have to train and work on just like we do our bodies.
• So with that being said, I’ve been doing a lot of research about what rest does for the body, and also about the concept of overtraining. I’ve found out that the body can’t tell the difference between stress from exercising and regular stress. Stress has a drastic effect on your cortisol levels, which has affects many things in the body. It increases our heart rate, blood pressure, blood glucose, respiration, muscle tension. It also shuts down some of our bodies systems that aren’t needed. It turns out that that just like anything balance is key. Too much of a good thing is actually unhealthy.
• So here’s to respecting my body and telling my mind to fuck off you’re taking a damn rest.
