So simple carbohydrates, they have a simple chemical structure, hence the name, they are only one to two sugar units long. And that means because of that simple structure, they’re broken down and metabolized really quickly by the digestive system. And generally, they taste pretty sweet, like a fruit sugar for example. I mentioned these in my previous post but they deserve their own post. I came across this recipe on Facebook and had all the ingredients so I decided to try them. It took me 5 minutes to put the ingredients together and they cook for 15 minutes minutes. So easy and more importantly... SO GOOD!!!! How do I know I'm in ketosis? We got up this morning and walked the dogs. Put a roast in the crockpot. Ran errands for a couple of hours. Decorated the house for Christmas. I’m a visual person. I like to SEE how things work. Take a look at this photo. This is 2 teaspoons of yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Just imagine that happening inside your body! These overly sweet and overly palatable foods will certainly leave you addicted. ⠀ Craving sugar could also be a sign of bacterial or yeast overgrowth or gut issues! Sugar is what these little organisms feed on! They might be the ones craving the sugar. So also addressing gut issues is key.🙏🏽 ⠀ Here’s what to do: 👍🏽 ⠀ 1️⃣eat enough calories 👉🏽 if you’re not intaking adequate food, your body will crave the energy or glucose, your body’s main energy source. You’ll be more prone to reach for sugary things. If you’re trying to lose fat, I recommend filling up on veggies and healthy fats to prevent the desire for sugar ⠀ 2️⃣eat balanced meals👉🏽 if your meal is heavy on carbs and lacking protein fat and fiber, it will leave you wanting more sugar because of the blood sugar crash you’re going to experience! Protein will keep blood sugar stable and prevent that crash. ⠀ 3️⃣never go too long without eating 👉🏽 this will cause blood sugars to plummet. When they’re too low, we’re evolutionarily prone to grab ANYTHING we see in sight AKA sugar! Set yourself up for success by always having healthy snacks handy ⠀ 4️⃣replace you’re added sugar with monk fruit or stevia 👉🏽 in your coffee, in baking, etc. this would be a great place to start! ⠀ 5️⃣eat a variety of low glycemic fruits and carbs: this included berries, sweet potatoes, quinoa, and brown rice. This will provide you steady energy without those crazy spikes ⠀ 6️⃣ADEQUATE SLEEP and REDUCE STRESS👉🏽 these are BIG. Your brain runs on glucose! Low sleep or overly stressed, you will certainly have cravings. This is so important! ⠀ Shown is wild sockeye salmon, Brussels cooked with coconut aminos, quinoa, and broccoli! Not sure if it happens to you guys, but if I ingest sugar early on in the day, my diet is all screwed up for the rest of the day because I’m craving it all day long. Solution: eliminate sugar from my morning coffee and from my diet. No dairy or bread or desserts until later in the day or not at all if I can.

When I cooked in the Crockpot in the past, it always tasted kind bitter and blah, don’t know what I was doing wrong but this time the flavor came out really rich and fragrant. Midday lunch sandwiches/soups topped off with cookies, brownies or cupcakes. 🍪🍪🍪 . . Betty Crocker cakes (always iced with homemade buttercream frosting), or homemade flakey-crust pie, everything from banana cream to strawberry/rhubarb, and dinner’s dessert is amazing! 🍰🍮🍰 . . Almost forgot — evening TV TIME treats! How about regular hot fudge sundaes, caramel corn, Twizzler's red/black licorice, or that 2nd piece of cake or pie? 🍧🍿🍭 . . ADULTHOOD: College cafeteria food — the dessert bar, and dorm room candy stash! 🍫🍬🍭 . . Married/family 💑 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 life, continue in all the above patterns. Eventually, in my late 40's, I began reading labels on cake mixes & candy wrappers & learned to make my own "healthier" desserts using pure maple syrup, raw honey, lucuma, coconut sugar, dates & stevia. 🕵🏼‍♀️🍯 . . I've made some progress and my CRAVINGS are definitely not what they used to be. Can YOU can relate to any of the above? Similar childhood or adulthood? 🤣 . . So what’s made THE biggest difference with “deprogramming” my sweet tooth? Will power & label-reading aside, it all starts in the gut, balancing your microbiome. Your real health, or lack thereof, is based here. There was a time and for many years that if I could eat 4-5 treats a day that I would. I didn’t realize till later that sugar lights up my brain and makes me feel high. I used sugar to self-medicate my way thru stress. I reached 275lbs. and I’m 5’3” tall. I’m now down 103lbs. and still trying to go down. This week I went without sugar for 3 days. I planned to eat a donut at the work potluck on Thursday. The plan was to eat two treats this week. I chose a large maple bar and enjoyed it before lunch. I didn’t think about it making me feel high and it was quite strong. I ate lunch but not much protein. Later I started feeling really panicked and it just went on and I even cried a little. Fortunately I could go to a short relaxation class about to start at work. I really that people with anxiety especially are at risk for symptoms like panic attacks from eating sugar. I need to plan better next time by eating a more moderate amount and have plenty of protein with it. Living a life of health and fitness has helped me to learn a lot about myself and my body. Body Type-Works out but definitely loves donuts . Life is about balance #treatnotcheat . One treat here and there wont make or break your progress just like one clean meal here and there wont give you progress . You must practice self discipline where you have more on days than off days . Yes I eat healthy or as I call it "healthy-ish" because I am not on a diet! This is hard & embarrassing to post but I'm also very happy & proud to share bc these numbers are part of the game & my biggest motivators. Started my weightloss journey at 223lbs, heaviest I've ever been. Not even full term pregnant had I reached 223lbs. Been steadily gaining weight for the past 3yrs for many reasons but, if I'm honest, mainly depression. It's a sneaky demon that u don't notice 'til it's fully consumed & affected u in ALL ways; emotionally, mentally, & physically. Once u're aware & can acknowledge it, it's really up to u to grab it by the horns & control it. Anywho, today is my 10th day following strict keto. I've hit a small, personal goal. I'M DOWN 10LBS. Nowhere near where I wanna be but damn does it feel good to say it. Closer every day. Said I'd do keto for 2 weeks & it's still my plan. I don't believe it's a good long term diet but I needed to do it this way to kick my sugar addiction. It's a REAL thing. I went through "the shakes" just like any other addict. It's shocking to go through that & even more that we're all addicted & unaware 'til we cut it off. My goals: be under 200lbs b4 the year is up. Confident I will reach it w/ no prob bc my will, commitment, & focus are stronger than ever. Goal for next year is to be 175lbs at some point, preferably summatime 🌞. Final goal is stay between 150-160lbs. Healthy & realistic for my 5'6" height. After keto, plan is to still count calories+macros bc that's the only "magic pill" there is, although hard to swallow. Any diet works as long as you burn more calories than you consume. The trick is consuming natural+nutritious calories, not just for weightloss, but for overall wellness.
