Norinco M305 in 7.62x51 NATO
A rugged and reliable Chinese clone of the M14.
The M14 was developed from the M1 Garand with it bring chambered in the shorter .308 over the Garand's .30-06, this made it easier for troops to carry more ammo and more controllable. It also features a 20 round detachable box magazine while the Garand had a 8 round internal magazine.
Originally the M14 was a select fire rifle, this was done to make it replace the BAR however with it being lighter weight it was very difficult to control in full auto so it was mainly used in semi auto, some troops even had their selector switches welded on semi auto.
It entered service in 1959 and was widely used during the Vietnam War however it was later replaced by the M16.
The M14 continued service as a designated marksman rifle (DMR) and saw wide usage in the Gulf War, Iraq and the War in Afghanistan. It is still widely used today with it proving more reliable than the Mk 110 and SR-25 that were meant to replace the M14.
