A trip back in August 2016 still sticks with me.
I was staying in Chur, Switzerland, with my boyfriend at that time.
We were staying in a small hotel, 20min from the village center. The intention was to spend a few days away from the family, work and problems in general. But that didn‘t quite work out.
Honestly, I was in a bad state at that time. I had been dealing with depression and a stressful living situation, which made me be a terrible person, but so fragile and vulnerable.
He was stressed because of me and couldn‘t forget about the things at home.
We decided to do a hike to the top of a little hill over the village.
The way led up through old alleys away to a footpath with a beautiful view of the scenery.
After coming across the Theological University, we found a nice little pavillon where you had a beautiful view of the city.
When we got up there, a young man was already sitting there. We started talking with him about who we are and who he is. Suddenly he looked me dead in the eyes and asked me, if I was happy with my career and my life in general. I thought about it for a moment and realised, ‚no, I‘m not happy‘. He smiled and said ‚well, then you have to do what you love and become happy!‘ Looking back at this encounter now, I realise it was a true turning point in my life. He made me question my whole life, even though he was just a stranger I met for a few minutes. So this saturday I went back to the pavillon, alone. And then I found the little graffiti that made me smile and reassured me in a way that I‘m on the right path.
Dear stranger from canada, THANK YOU! You may have changed my life for the better without knowing.
Fun Fact: on the ride home from Chur I was given an almost free upgrade to first class, just because I asked the guy nicely if that was my train #peoplearegold
