Let’s talk about the wrists 🤛🏽👊🏽🤜🏽 When I first started practicing yoga, up until my teacher training I always had sore or aching wrists 🙅🏽‍♀️ Swipe to photo 2 ➡️ This is an exaggerated photo of how I used to practice and how I see many other people practice. We push all the weight into the wrist joint and the pinky edge of the hand. We are lazy with the index finger knuckle because generally the top of the forearms are tight or weak. Swipe to photo 3 ➡️ To avoid wrist discomfort we always push the index finger knuckle down. This allows us to evenly distribute the weight through the hand. Swipe to photo 4 ➡️ The hands work like suction cups, we lift the inner palm (the blue dot) and push the circumference of the palm and fingers (white parts) down strongly and evenly. Swipe to photo 5 ➡️ I like to lift my finger knuckles because it allows me to grip the mat, lift the inner palm and to strongly push the palm knuckles down. Pushing down the index finger knuckle will also help you keep your arms straighter (if you’re trying to transition from crow to crane this is for you 😉) A lot of my students find these hand details super tricky, so I have different techniques and exercises to help. Many also find it really difficult at first, however bringing in this technique for beginners will assist them as they advance to more complicated arm balances. If you experience any wrist pain and want a few more details or exercises to help feel free to message 😘

LIFE IS PRECIOUS My biggest fear hit me head on yesterday. I lost my Dad 11 years ago + deep down I fear something happening to my Mum. Then I was slapped in the face with it when I heard she was in a car accident. Thankfully she is ok, but it killed me to know she was hurt, especially when I first saw her in hospital. . The car is a complete right off + we’re so lucky she has come away with what seems to be fairly minor. Most importantly she will be fine. . This emotional experience has put so much into perspective. A big ass lesson + reminder that life is so precious. People are precious. I have a newfound appreciation for who + what is ultimately important. . Sweating the small stuff is dumb. Truly being appreciative for even just being here, is a gift beyond words. All that matters + all that there is, is love. Love for life, ourselves, eachother. Living from + as, Love. Everything else is juvenile. . So if you’re holding onto something silly that’s getting in the way of your relationship with someone, is it worth it? . If you’re avoiding forgiveness of yourself or others, get over yourself + let it go. Forgive. . If you’re closing yourself off from fully opening to someone, is it worth it? . If you’re closing off from fully receiving love, is it worth it? . If you want to do something in life, but you’re holding back, get out of your own way + make it happen. . If you’re holding back from telling someone how you feel about them, get out of the way + tell them. . If you’re afraid of loving someone so openly + freely, let down those walls, hold them tightly + love the shit out of them. . You hear me?! Seriously. Fucking do it 🐵 . Be kind. Don’t be an asshole. . What are you waiting for? . Ok, some things are not entirely easy or straight forward to simply let go of immediately for many reasons, but start by flipping your perspective + CHOOSE to begin the process. . We’re lucky to have a diverse community of students at MYS! ✌️We’ve a few MMA athletes who’ve turned to yoga to help enhance their athletic training and flexibility, improve their balance, and for injury prevention. Check out these great yoga postures to help complement all the hard work you do in MMA training 🥋🥊(or if you’re a gym junkie 🏋️‍♀️or climber 🧗‍♀️) : 1️⃣Triangle pose w/ arm bind; great for strengthening inner legs, obliques, back stability and opens the shoulder (with bond); look any direction that feels good for your neck. 2️⃣Cobra; from laying on your stomach, place your forehead on the mat and place your palms by your low floating ribs; root the tops of your feet & hip points into your mat; lengthen the center of your head forward and peel your upper body off your mat; keep your eyes forward or slightly down to keep your neck elongated. Only go up as high as feels supported in your back. Great for the spine and vertebral discs, opens chest. 3️⃣ Lizard pose; from tabletop position, step your right foot to the outside of your right hand. Stack your right knee on top of your right heel; hands can be on blocks, on your mat or you forearms can be on your mat; lengthen your chest forward to keep your airways open To incorporate more strength, tuck your left toes and rise your left leg off the ground Hold for 10-15 breaths, then change sides. Deep stretch for psoas, hip flexors, groin and inner thighs. 4️⃣ Supine twist; Lay on your back, place your arms in a T-shape and place your feet onto your mat; shuffle your hips to the right and lower your knees to the right hand side; neck looking any comfortable direction, relax shoulders. Great side body stretch/release. 5️⃣ Savasana with Block under back 👌😌. Place a block underneath your shoulders on the widest setting; extend your arms into a T-shape; feet can be on your mat (knees bent up to sky) if back is a bit sensitive. Opens chest and releases shoulders/neck. . . Come to class & talk to us if you have questions. Sometimes looking inside and seeing yourself, your thoughts, feelings, sensations and your actions towards them is like being boxed in by walls and it’s seemly impossible to punch through them. But with correct understanding of them you are able to see beyond them, if you react to them you multiply them. Our true nature is beyond senses, feelings, and thoughts. The true connected self reacts to none and just is, one and connected with all. So this is where the #warrior is needed! The warrior that is observing the mind, sensations, and your actions in every passing moment of a day, seeking to understand their nature and in turn seeing yourself and your relationship will all. So the walls you create are actually build by you, breaking them down can be done by you. Like the old saying “unlearn what you have learned”. Our entire life we seek answers to questions about our life always searching outside ourselves for answers. Filling our container (our body and it’s mental contents) with information , information for the most is discarded or taken out of the container. The real warrior looks within. If you use outside as your guide then perhaps understand everything outside yourself is the mirror of your collected consciousness so in turn how you react to these situations determines the outcome. But again, training to see this starts within, starts with the vigilant warrior mind striving to see ones own nature. This if anything is the only thing you need to judge, until there is no longer anything to judge, it just is as it is. You are part of the creator, the creative.. one, connected, and complete. Ok we all know how great coconut oil is but seriously it's so useful so thought I'd share how I use this magical oil ;) ,............................................................. - Moisturizer (lather body straight after shower while still a bit damp so it really sinks into skin only need tiny bit!) - Shaving cream...yep it's amazing! - Make up remover...so much softer on skin especially your eyes! - Cooking...I taste it so only use in baking, pancakes & bliss balls - Hair mask...lather in the whole head leave as long as you can tip once in shower add in shampoo onto dry hair and then gradually get it wet to make sure all oil fully removed! The course runs over 7 days, from 10:30-5:30 each day. “I live my life free of judgement” - that’s an intention, not a statement. Yesterday I learnt a valuable lesson. When I first started teaching in Sydney, I was relieving for a teacher who had a PD course, when she saw me she realised she had forgotten all about a professional development course she was booked in for, hence why I was there relieving for her. I sat there in judgement thinking, “I would never forget something like that.” Well, the EXACT same thing happened to me yesterday, I got to school bright and early to sort my week, and what do you know, my relief came to relieve me of my duties as I was meant to be in the city for a Drama professional development course! Human AF and Judgemental AF!!! It ain’t always so black and white!

Thanks for the tags ladies 😍 @kellyschwantes ・・・ “Just like the lotus, we too have the ability to rise from the mud, bloom out of the darkness and radiate out into the world.” 🌾🌸🙏 . . Whenever we feel lost, frustrated, disappointed, angry, judgemental, we can always always come back to our truth. Because it’s always within us. As one of my beautiful teachers @anchoringthelight once said, “you’re never lost, just misplaced.” . . For me, when I feel out of whack and out of alignment, I just go back to the basics - simple pranayama (breath work), light meditation, time out in nature and around people who lift me up. Just like the lotus, we too can rise from the mud. We just have to remember that the beautiful seed to grow is already there with us. 💕🌿🦋 . . Taught a packed class at @lululemonausnz Balmain this morning, followed by a catch up with a dear friend @nassieh, saying farewell to the one and only @jazzlawler, then a much needed sunset spent by the ocean with my chica @cristina.arango.yoga.
