Occultism, or Western Esotericism as it has become known, has for many centuries held the interest and imagination of people from all walks of life. Much debated, often maligned and misunderstood, the broadest definition of the occult incorporates many ancient (and some not so ancient) threads of belief and folklore into a fascinating and secretive culture which revolves around the notion of the unseen forces that guide and influence our actions, and the belief that these forces are connected to a range of rituals, rites and symbols which allow the occult practitioner to tap into this unseen world. .
David S.Herrerias from Mexico City is an artist with a deep connection to these ideas, his powerful artwork is steeped in the ancient and mystical stories that are the foundation of occultist lore. Now living in Gothenburg, Sweden, the self-proclaimed alchemist uses art to explore these ideas and find connection with the ethereal. Indeed, he has just released his first book, named "The Book of Q’ab iTz", which has been lauded by his peers as not just the contemporary pinnacle of understanding in the incredibly complex realm of mysticism and magick, but a sorcerer's talisman of great power.
