This week has been mental health awareness week and although this is a little scary for me to post, I feel it’s very important that I do.
If you’ve been watching my vlogs you’ll know that the past couple of years have been a huge mental struggle for me. Don’t get me wrong, I count myself lucky every single day to live the life that I lead and appreciate every little part. However, we all go through shit.
I’m not going to delve into the details of what’s been going on with me but what I did want to bring attention to is what I’ve done to help myself.
I took myself to therapy.
Therapy isn’t something I ever thought I’d need or want, but I took my first session at the start of the year and now I don’t miss a week.
Therapy doesn’t give you all the right answers, it’s not an instant fix of happiness and it’s not going to suddenly make everything okay but it’s helped massively and honestly changed my life.
Therapy has taught me mostly about myself. It’s made me realise a lot of things that I didn’t before, it’s changed my mindset, helped me handle difficult situations, thoughts and feelings better and just given me a safe place to voice everything and anything to an unbiased source. I come out of every session feeling like a weight has been lifted and I have way more clarity.
If you’re going through a rough time. I’d highly recommend seeking professional help. It doesn’t make you ‘crazy’, it makes you the exact opposite. I actually think that everyone should go to therapy at least once in their life, even if you’re not going through anything. It just teaches you about how you’re wired up and gives you a better understanding of yourself, which is massively important.
Don’t suffer in silence, there’s always someone out there to listen 🖤
